It was past midnight when Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan (36 years old) and Ms. Hoang Thi Nhung (35 years old) finished a day of work and returned home to group 5, Vi Xuyen town (Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang province).

Entering the bedroom, Mr. Tuan discovered a note his daughter had left on his parents' bed. Seeing his wife walking up the stairs, he signaled to announce "a surprise gift is waiting".

Ms. Nhung was used to her daughter’s little notes. She took the note, smiled happily, thinking that her daughter had something to confide in her parents like always.

But this time she burst into tears at the emotional words of little Nguyen Huyen My (10 years old).

Every time she watches the video, Ms. Nhung still feels the same emotions. She feels sorry for her twin children Huyen My and Anh Vu who are disadvantaged and lack meticulous care because their parents are busy with making a living. Recently, the family took a photo album to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Tuan works in a government agency, and in the evenings he often helps his wife arrange flowers and offerings for visiting groups at Vi Xuyen National Martyrs Cemetery. Not only on Tet, Ms. Nhung's job is also very busy on weekdays, sometimes she comes home early at 11pm, sometimes late at 2-3am the next day.

Knowing that business is hard and there is little time for children, Ms. Nhung always tells Huyen My and Anh Vu to eat, bathe and go to bed by themselves.

Every time she saw her mother taking care of other family members, Huyen My watched and learned from her mother, like how she turned on the water and spread out the blanket waiting for her parents.

Instead of being sad because her parents come home late and don't have much time to spend with them, the little girl takes care of herself and cleans up her and her brother's things. Mr. Tuan commented that his daughter has the same personality as her mother.

On days when Huyen My and her sister go to school and her parents go to work, and they don't have time to talk to each other, the little girl often writes notes to leave messages.

One time, the child rolled up his leftover breakfast money in a piece of paper and wrote to his mother: "Mom, this is my leftover breakfast money. I didn't have time to give it to you yet." Those small pieces of paper became a means of communication between mother and child.

During the days leading up to Tet, Nhung and her husband increased their work productivity. Huyen My asked to stay at her grandmother’s house so that her mother could focus on selling. Every time she saw her eldest daughter showing affection and care, the mother was touched, hoping to make up for her children’s feelings.

"Huyen My is understanding and independent. She is emotional, knows how to love, and shares work with her grandparents and parents," said Ms. Nhung.
