Mr. Tran Thanh Man holds the position of Member of the National Defense and Security Council.

On the morning of May 22, at the 7th Session, President To Lam presented to the National Assembly for approval the membership of the National Defense and Security Council for Mr. Tran Thanh Man - Chairman of the 15th National Assembly.

The National Assembly approves members of the National Defense and Security Council at the proposal of the President by secret ballot.

As a result, the National Assembly agreed to approve Mr. Tran Thanh Man to hold the position of Member of the National Defense and Security Council for the 2021-2026 term.

The resolution approving the National Defense and Security Council members was also voted through by the National Assembly deputies with 463/463 deputies participating in the vote in favor (accounting for 95.07% of the total number of National Assembly deputies).

Previously, on May 20, the National Assembly elected Mr. Tran Thanh Man to hold the position of Chairman of the 15th National Assembly.

The Constitution stipulates that the National Defense and Security Council consists of a Chairman, Vice Chairman and members. The list of members of the National Defense and Security Council is submitted by the President to the National Assembly for approval.

The President holds the position of Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council. According to the list approved by the 15th National Assembly at the beginning of its term, the Vice Chairman of the Council is the Prime Minister; the members are the Chairman of the National Assembly, the Minister of National Defense, the Minister of Public Security and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The National Defense and Security Council works collectively and makes decisions by majority vote.

The National Defense and Security Council shall submit to the National Assembly a decision on a state of war; in case the National Assembly cannot convene, it shall submit to the National Assembly Standing Committee a decision; mobilize all forces and capabilities of the country to protect the Fatherland; perform special tasks and powers assigned by the National Assembly in case of war; decide on the participation of the people's armed forces in activities contributing to the protection of peace in the region and in the world.
