At around 8:30 p.m., four cars were speeding on the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet highway. When they approached the intersection of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay highway in Cam My district, Dong Nai, they suddenly collided head-on.

The impact was so strong that the 5-seat car with HCMC license plate was crushed into the river, and another car crashed into the curb. The front and rear of the other two cars were damaged. Some drivers broke the doors and took the victims out to the emergency room.

The incident occurred when traffic from Binh Thuan to Ho Chi Minh City after Tet caused the road to be congested for many kilometers. The Traffic Police Department and the highway management force are coordinating, clearing the scene, and investigating the cause of the accident.

According to the highway management unit, over the past two days there have been many collisions on the above route due to vehicles not keeping the correct distance when driving on the highway.

The Dau Giay - Phan Thiet Expressway is 99 km long, connecting Dong Nai and Binh Thuan provinces, with a total investment of more than 12,500 billion VND. The route starts at the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway in Ham Thuan Nam district and ends at the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway intersection in Dong Nai province. The project opened to traffic in April 2023, helping cars from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet to take more than 2 hours instead of 4-5 hours as before.
