Qualcomm develops new Snapdragon X series chips for PCs

Qualcomm has been releasing processors specifically for PCs for a while now. Since 2018, the company has been releasing chips branded as Snapdragon 8xc for Windows laptops, according to Neowin.

Qualcomm says new Snapdragon X-series chips for PCs will launch in 2024

The company said today that it will drop its 8cx-branded chips in future PCs in favor of a new product called the Snapdragon X series.

Qualcomm said the Snapdragon X-series platform builds on the company's years of experience designing heterogeneous computing architectures across central processing units (CPUs), graphics processing units (GPUs), and neural processing units (NPUs). The next-generation custom Qualcomm Oryon CPU will rely on Snapdragon X, which when combined with the NPU will deliver more on-device user experiences in the new era of generative AI.

The Qualcomm Oryon CPU was first announced in November 2022. At the time, the company said the CPU "will be integrated across a wide range of Snapdragon-powered products, starting with PCs and including smartphones... and network infrastructure solutions."

The Snapdragon X branding will help users recognize the chip as a PC-specific product, as opposed to Qualcomm's chips made for smartphones and tablets, the press release said. The company said it will change the logo on the Snapdragon X line.
