Quang Ninh determined to eliminate the situation of '9 months sharpening knives, 3 months of overcharging'

From now until the end of the year, Bai Chay Ward (Quang Ninh) will organize inspections of the tourism business environment, focusing on strictly handling "brokers" and establishments that "rip off" customers.

On July 9, information from the People's Committee of Bai Chay City (Quang Ninh) said that the locality has just established an inspection team to restore order to the tourism business environment in the area, after being repeatedly reported by tourists about the situation of restaurant touts 'ripping off' customers.

According to the plan, from now until the end of 2025, localities will inspect compliance with legal regulations in business; price posting and selling at listed prices; the sale of counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods; the situation of touts soliciting and stalking tourists; encroachment on roads and sidewalks; violations of regulations on food hygiene and safety, fire prevention and fighting and mandatory business conditions.

As Thanh Nien has reported, since the beginning of the summer tourist season, Bai Chay tourist area has been continuously receiving complaints from tourists about the quality of service, mainly restaurants being accused of "ripping off".

Through the reporter's investigation, the situation of restaurants being lured by tour electric car drivers, taxi drivers, and hotel staff in Bai Chay tourist area to receive a commission of 20-30% of the sales bill.

Accordingly, the more expensive the food service is, the bigger the commission the "bait" gets, even in some cases, several million VND per bill.

A representative of the People's Committee of Bai Chay Ward said that through this inspection, the locality will publicly disclose restaurants that violate the law and strictly handle the "price gouging" that damages the local business environment.
