The Civil Aviation Authority requires airlines to update and amend the transport regulations (if any) for the transport of ashes by air on domestic routes.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just sent a document to Vietnamese airlines stating that it will not require passengers to provide a medical certificate for transporting ashes on domestic flights.
Accordingly, based on reports from Vietnamese airlines on procedures related to the transportation of ashes by air on domestic flights; based on Circular No. 21/2021/TT-BYT dated November 26, 2021 of the Ministry of Health regulating hygiene in burial and cremation, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requests that Vietnamese airlines not require passengers to provide a medical examination certificate for the transportation of ashes on domestic flights.
The Civil Aviation Authority also requires airlines to update and amend their transport regulations (if any), internal regulations, and publicly announce information to passengers on their websites, ticket offices, and ticket agents so that passengers can look up information.
According to the regulations of some airlines in Vietnam, the deceased's remains may be allowed to be transported in the form of ashes or remains (bone form).
Many airlines allow cremated remains to be transported as checked baggage or carry-on baggage. Depending on the size, weight or wishes of the passenger, the airline's requirements to choose the appropriate transportation option.
To be able to carry ashes by plane, passengers must comply with the following requirements: plane ticket of the person transporting the ashes by plane; identity card or citizen identification card of the person carrying out the procedure; certificate of family relationship (birth certificate, household registration book or marriage certificate) or commitment of relationship with the deceased; death certificate, death certificate extract or record of handover of the body of a relative; invoice, certificate or record of handover of cremation; confirmation of the location of the ashes in case of sending them to a pagoda or church; request for transportation; commitment of transportation; must be transported in an urn containing ashes, properly wrapped and sealed with safety materials./.
