Premiere of opera about the true love story of a Vietnamese princess and a Japanese businessman

Recently in Hanoi, a press conference was held to introduce the opera Princess Anio . The play is based on the famous "transnational" love story in the 17th century between Princess Ngoc Hoa and merchant Araki Sotaro.

Accordingly, Araki Sotaro was a Japanese merchant in the 17th century. He traveled from Nagasaki to Dang Trong (now Central Vietnam) and met Princess Ngoc Hoa. The couple quickly fell in love and this love that crossed the border was approved by Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen.

Princess Ngoc Hoa followed her husband to the land of cherry blossoms and lived a happy and fulfilling life. She was also affectionately called "Anio San" by the people here.

The performance is directed by conductor Honna Tetsuji - music director and principal conductor of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra - general director; composer of music by musician Tran Manh Hung; director, opera singer Oyama Daisuke is director, scriptwriter, lyricist (Japanese); composer of lyrics by musician Ha Quang Minh (Vietnamese).

The role of Princess Anio is played by two Vietnamese actresses, Dao To Loan and Bui Thi Trang. Meanwhile, the role of businessman Araki Sotaro is played by two Japanese male artists, Kobori Yusuke and Yamamoto Kohei.

The interesting point is that the Japanese artists had to make an effort to learn the language to sing in Vietnamese throughout the play.

Speaking at the press conference, Ms. Phuong Hoa - Director of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said that this play was performed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan:

"Through creativity in culture, art, music, painting, language, lyrics, and joint stage works between artists of the two countries, it is a celebration of the common values ​​of our two peoples."

The opera Princess Anio will premiere at the Hanoi Opera House on September 22, 23 and 24, then be performed in Hung Yen, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City.
