There are more than 20 new plays from reformed opera to spoken drama that will be presented to audiences in Ho Chi Minh City during the Lunar New Year.
On the afternoon of January 12, IDECAF Drama Theater reviewed the comedy "Whatever is fun, I prioritize" by author and director Nguyen Tam Anh. Before that, this stage reviewed the play "Liang Shanbo - Zhu Yingtai's extra story", promising to create jubilant laughter at the beginning of spring.
Comedy "takes over the airwaves"
The Flat Saigon Stage of the World Youth Theater will present the comedy "The Haunted House" (author, director Gia Bao), incorporating laughter into a story of humanistic values, emphasizing the message of awakening. The Flat Saigon Stage of the World Youth Theater also presents the play "The Great Chaos in Mumbai" with Indian colors, honoring the value of sincere, selfless love.
Hong Van Stage staged the play "The Body of a Butterfly's Soul" with joyful laughter but touching, promoting family affection, no matter how hard the children are, parents and family are still the support. Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater (also known as Stage 5B) re-staged the play "Despite Beauty" with light content, happy laughter revolving around the theme "beauty is defeated by character".

Director Ton That Can, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association, acknowledged that audiences want to relieve stress and relax during Tet, so art troupes stage comedies to sell tickets easily. "Artists also want to laugh with the audience in the early spring and send positive energy, so the plays focus on promoting humanity, living a good life for society, and using laughter to fight social evils," said Mr. Ton That Can.
Tragedy is still popular
This year, the theme of tragedy and horror is still exploited. This is strange because every year, some stages are still afraid to touch this topic due to taboos. Specifically, the Xom Kich Stage performed 2 plays: "Sleepwalker" and "Soul Thief" at the experimental stage at the Ho Chi Minh City Dance College (155 Bis Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Vo Thi Sau Ward, District 3). Meritorious Artist Vu Xuan Trang shared: "If the play has good content and attractive actors, any topic will have viewers. The problem is after the sad stories, the tragic crying stories... what is the final message to send to the audience in the first days of spring?"
People's Artist Hong Van believes that the theater stage is rejuvenating actors and audiences, so the matter of "luck - bad luck" in the content of plays is no longer taboo. Educational content to help people live better is what all theaters focus on exploiting this Tet season. This Tet, Hong Van theater will light up the plays "Silent Room", "Ghost Wife", "Abandoned House"...
Every year, Hoang Thai Thanh Stage stages a tragedy that brings tears to the audience. This year, it will be "Short and long hair". Hong Hac Stage presents "If I Still Live" directed by Viet Linh, creating a profound quality because the story about the war theme is performed vividly and emotionally by the young actors.
There are 3 plays for children during Tet this year including: "Magic Pen" (Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Theatre), "Penny - O Me Ly" (Ban Mai Stage - Ho Chi Minh City Children's House) and "Brown Planet" (Quoc Thao Stage). According to insiders, these 3 plays are educational and colorful, suitable for children.
Ho Chi Minh City's reformed theater also has many options such as the play "Nhi Ho Diep, Hiep Nhat Hoa" performed at Nu Cuoi Theater (6 Huyen Tran Cong Chua, District 1); Thien Long Theater staged the plays "Tu hi lam mon", "Cao Quan Bao dai chien Du Hong"; Tran Huu Trang Theater re-staged two classic works "Doi co Luu", "Tieng ho song Hau" and Chi Linh - Van Ha Theater staged the play "Van vo ky duyen"...
