For about 2 weeks now, at traditional markets and supermarkets in Ha Tinh , due to scarce supply, the prices of many types of green vegetables have increased sharply compared to the end of August. Survey at Ha Tinh market, green vegetables such as: water spinach, Malabar spinach, and Chinese cabbage are sold for 10,000 - 15,000 VND/bunch, an increase of 5,000 - 7,000 VND/bunch compared to before; some types are twice as expensive such as: basil, basil, perilla, and Vietnamese coriander are sold for 15,000 VND/bunch.

At this time, Ms. Thai Thi Nguyet - a small trader at Ha Tinh market, finds it more difficult to import green vegetables.

Ms. Thai Thi Nguyet - a trader at Ha Tinh market said: "Due to the impact of many storms since the end of August, vegetable growing areas in the province have been flooded, root rot, and damaged. Green vegetables, especially spices, are currently very scarce, and it is very difficult to import. In particular, tubers and fruits imported from Da Lat are still abundant, but because of high transportation costs, prices have also increased significantly."

Faced with the shortage of green vegetables, vegetable growing areas in Ha Tinh have focused on restoring production to promptly "cool down" the market. In the radish growing area in Phu Hoa village, Yen Hoa commune, at this time, Ha Trung Trading, General Services and Livestock Cooperative is hiring workers to weed and make beds to prepare for winter crop planting.

Workers of Ha Trung Trade, General Services and Livestock Cooperative prepare land for winter radish planting.

Ms. Tran Thi Viet Ha - Director of Ha Trung Trading, General Services and Livestock Cooperative said: "In the winter crop of 2025, the cooperative plans to produce about 7 hectares of radishes to meet market demand. Like every year, at this time, the cooperative already has radishes to sell. However, this year, due to the impact of the weather, we have just now been able to implement the production plan. Although later than every year, we are trying to speed up the progress and increase human resources to ensure that products are available on the market as soon as possible."

Not only in Yen Hoa, farmers in La Xa residential area (Ha Huy Tap ward) are also taking advantage of favorable weather to plant herbs. This item is being purchased by traders at the field at 5,000 VND/bunch, 5 times higher than at the end of August.

People in La Xa spice growing area are speeding up production recovery to soon supply the market.

Mr. Ho Van Manh, a resident of La Xa residential area, Ha Huy Tap ward, said: “The recent storm damaged my family’s 5 sao of vegetables. Now the price has increased but there are no vegetables to sell. I have to plant alternate crops. For the areas that can still be restored, I will prune, fertilize, and mound the soil, hoping to harvest early in about two weeks; for the severely damaged areas, I will completely redo them. Currently, the land preparation is almost done, just waiting for rain to plant immediately.”

To ensure supply for the market, currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ha Tinh is developing a project to produce winter crops in 2025. Along with that, the specialized sector is actively coordinating with localities with specialized vegetable growing areas to encourage farmers to restore production, apply appropriate farming measures to shorten the growing time and ensure productivity and quality of vegetables to serve the market.

The vegetables are growing well and hopefully will soon be supplied to the market.

To limit the impact of natural disasters, the industry also recommends that localities and people be proactive and flexible in arranging crop schedules and crop structures to ensure safety and production efficiency; proactively make high beds, dig wide drainage ditches, use plastic covers in the early stages of planting... to ensure the safety of vegetables against unusual weather developments.
