Former striker Wayne Rooney is in talks with boxing promoter Misfits Boxing, but insists he remains focused on returning to football coaching.
On The Overlap podcast with former players Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher and Jill Scott, when asked about the possibility of entering the ring, Rooney chuckled and said "you never know".
The England legend said Misfits Boxing had contacted him and made him an offer, but wanted to focus on returning to football coaching soon. "There have been a few offers, obviously Misfits are serious and information has come out in the last few days. But I want to focus on returning to coaching, that's my focus," Rooney said.

Misfits Boxing has recently hosted a number of boxing matches featuring YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul, millionaire businessman Joe Fournier, reality TV star Idris Virgo and social media star Alaena Vampira.
According to the British newspaper Mirror , Misfits Boxing and Rooney began negotiations a few weeks ago, but have yet to reach an agreement. Rooney was a member of an amateur boxing club as a child and was a big fan of the sport . Rooney's favorite boxers are Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan and the four Smith brothers - Liam, Callum, Paul and Stephen.
As Misfits Boxing is outside the rules of the British Boxing Board of Control, Rooney will not be competing as a professional boxer if he decides to fight. But the fight featuring the former Man Utd striker is still expected to attract a large crowd.
British newspaper Sunsport predicts Rooney's potential opponents include former players such as Wayne Bridge, Phil Bardsley, Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Vardy - the striker currently playing for Leicester in the Championship, or YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul.
Rooney grew up at Everton, before playing for Man Utd from 2004 to 2017. He holds the record for scoring goals for Man Utd with 253 goals and for England with 53 goals. During his playing career, he won five Premier League titles and one Champions League.
After retiring in 2021, Rooney moved on to coach Derby County, DC United and Birmingham but did not leave much of an impression. Most recently, the 38-year-old was fired by Birmingham after only 15 games with two wins, four draws and nine losses.
