On the evening of November 17, at Hoa Binh Square, the Festival of Ethnic Costumes of Hoa Binh Province attracted thousands of locals and tourists to enjoy. This activity is part of a series of events of the Culture - Tourism Week of Hoa Binh Province in 2024.

In the program, 120 actors, technicians, choreographers, and workers performed traditional costumes of Hoa Binh province's ethnic groups, starting with the Muong ethnic group, followed by the Thai, Dao, Tay, Mong, and Kinh ethnic groups.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Quach Thi Kieu, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hoa Binh province, said that Hoa Binh is a land rich in historical and cultural traditions; it is home to ethnic minority communities, the largest of which is the Muong ethnic group, followed by the Kinh, Thai, Tay, Dao and Mong ethnic groups. Along with language, costumes are a traditional cultural heritage with easily recognizable characteristics of each ethnic group, containing artistic and historical values ​​of each ethnic group. Each ethnic group has its own standards of costumes to create suitability and difference according to gender, age and social status. The decorative art on costumes is also very diverse, with its own aesthetic style, or motifs with its own themes and techniques of expression... these are symbols and characteristics of the culture of each ethnic group.

The colors on the costumes of Muong women are not too bright, expressed through each part of the costume. The skirt must always be black or dark blue, the scarf on the head is always white, however, with the delicate handling of colors by combining the scarf, short shirt with bib, boi tenh and especially the colors and patterns on the waistband of the skirt, the costumes of Muong women become unique, with distinct features.

In contrast to women's clothing, Muong men's clothing shows simplicity and strength, as if to highlight the grace and sophistication of Muong girls' clothing. This outfit usually includes a short or long indigo shirt, buttoned, loose pants and a belt wrapped around the waist. The head is tied up and wrapped with a long scarf, with the ends tucked to the sides, showing strength and majesty.

Since ancient times, Thai women in Hoa Binh have been famous for their weaving. They are very good at cotton growing and weaving techniques, especially weaving and decorating brocade patterns. With skillful hands and a delicate aesthetic sense, Thai women have also created traditional women's costumes with unique, outstanding features that cannot be mixed with any other ethnic group.

Not too flashy, the Dao Tien women's costumes use black and indigo as the main colors. The combination of two dark tones with white decorative patterns creates a delicate, elegant and harmonious look for the costumes.

Dao Tien women's costumes are embroidered with patterns on the flaps, backs, hems and collars with very sophisticated, elaborate and eye-catching patterns. Besides the unique costumes, Dao Tien women also love to use silver jewelry, from necklaces, bracelets to earrings...

Compared to the costumes of other ethnic groups, the Tay costumes in Hoa Binh are quite simple in color, but sophisticated in patterns and harmonious combination of accessories. The small details and accessories on the Tay costumes all show aesthetics, sophistication and their own concept of beauty.

Traditional costumes of the Hmong people in Hoa Binh province use many unique handcraft techniques and pattern-making techniques. These include embroidery, weaving, fabric patchwork, metal patchwork, and beeswax printing. The richness of techniques not only reflects the value of the costumes but also reflects the level of creativity, handcraft techniques, and aesthetic ability.

In the colorful picture of costumes of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam, Kinh women's costumes are like a unique and distinct highlight. When talking about traditional costumes of Vietnamese women, it is impossible not to mention the ao dai. Wherever they are, Kinh women are very proud of the image of the traditional ao dai.

The program is organized to preserve and promote traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic groups, enhance promotion and introduce tourism potential and cultural heritage of ethnic groups in Hoa Binh province.

The program attracted thousands of locals and tourists to enjoy.

At the end of the program, delegates and visitors participated in the xoe dance to show the solidarity of the Thai people.
