Long Thanh Airport must be completed by December 31, 2025

The Prime Minister requested all units to urgently speed up the progress of component projects, ensuring that Long Thanh airport is completed by December 31, 2025.

The Government Office has just announced the conclusion of the Prime Minister's progress meeting on the Long Thanh airport project.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister requested that for some works that are being implemented very slowly and do not meet requirements, there must be immediate solutions to overcome and speed up progress. Regarding component project 4, the Prime Minister requested the Minister of Transport to direct the adjustment of the plan to clearly define the work, agencies, units, and implementers, and the completion deadline of December 31, 2025. For the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway expansion project, the main reason for the slow progress is related to the difficulties and problems of the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC). The Prime Minister assigned Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc to directly direct and thoroughly handle the problem before December 10. The problems must be thoroughly resolved, and all site clearance work related to the airport and expressway serving airport operations must be completed in December this year. By January 1, 2025, it is guaranteed that the construction of the second runway can begin. Regarding the connecting road, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Transport to urgently study the transport connection plan by railway or subway in the shortest, fastest, and most effective direction, and report in the first quarter of 2025. The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai Province, and VEC are responsible for quickly implementing the Ho Chi Minh City beltway and An Phu intersection projects, promptly completing the routes, ensuring progress and quality for synchronous exploitation with the Long Thanh airport project. Previously, the National Assembly passed the Resolution of the 8th session, agreeing to adjust the investment policy of the Long Thanh international airport project to the end of 2026 instead of the third quarter of 2026, 1 year later than the original resolution of the National Assembly. However, the Government is determined to complete the project on schedule, which was the end of December 2025.
