A man from Bac Ninh invented a machine to make soil into ridges, which is very convenient in every way, and made the whole village admire him.

Born and raised in the rural area of ​​Minh Tan commune (Luong Tai district, Bac Ninh province), Mr. Phung Van Nam (born in 1981) has successfully researched and manufactured many highly applicable agricultural machinery products, contributing to reducing labor, increasing productivity, highly appreciated and widely used by farmers.

Passion for creativity

Born into a farming family in difficult circumstances, after finishing 6th grade, Nam had to drop out of school to help his parents with housework.

During this time, he had many experiences and understood the hardships of farmers. From there, he came up with the idea of ​​creating products that applied science and technology, increasing productivity and reducing the labor and hardship of farmers.

Mr. Nam shared: “I have experienced many jobs, from farming, blacksmithing, mechanics, studying, doing business in agricultural areas in the southern provinces... Going to many places, doing many jobs, I understand the hardships of people and the business experiences in other regions. From there, the idea of ​​researching and inventing machinery for agriculture began to grow in me.”

Mr. Nam was troubled when he saw that although farmers had used machines to till the land, they still had to use hoes and rakes to make ridges, which resulted in low productivity. He searched social networks and researched machines suitable for local production characteristics.

In 2013, he imported an old milling machine manufactured in Japan and improved it to suit the needs of the people.

Mr. Phung Van Nam, a farmer who invented the "5-in-1" soil-making machine in Minh Tan commune (Luong Tai district, Bac Ninh province), improves the soil-making machine product every day to help improve labor productivity.

Without professional knowledge, not knowing much about machines, he made it himself according to his own ideas combined with research on the internet. Reassembling and cutting, going through many times of assembly and creation, with the determination to complete the product to the end, many sleepless nights, he succeeded with his first invention, a mini handheld bed-making machine.

According to Mr. Nam, the mini handheld tiller is an improvement from the old Japanese tiller and can adjust to different bed sizes.

The machine was put into production, contributing to liberating human labor and increasing productivity. People in the area were very excited. From the initial success, he cherished the idea of ​​creating a 5-in-1 high-yield ridge milling machine.

Mr. Nam confided that agriculture is increasingly developing and has a need to expand, people in the region grow more and more crops while each type is suitable for different types of beds.

Mini-bed making machines cannot meet large production needs and ensure seasonal factors for farmers because mini machines used on large areas will take a lot of effort.

Therefore, he imported used quality Japanese generators and gear heads and assembled them together; then, he manufactured the ridge milling unit and tested the 5-in-1 ridge milling system with many new features since 2014.

While working and gaining experience, he took the machine out to the field to test its effectiveness and overcome existing shortcomings.

Immediately after its launch, the product became a powerful assistant for farmers, helping to make the work of making beds faster and more efficient; reducing labor, reducing costs, increasing crop productivity and improving production efficiency.

The milling system can make 5 different types of beds including: carrot beds with bed surface from 45 cm, 30 cm high, 17 cm furrow; leafy vegetable beds with size from 90 - 100 cm; watermelon beds with bed surface size from 140 - 160 cm, 20 degree slope; melon beds with bed surface size from 130 - 150 cm, curved bed surface and winter onion beds with bed surface size from 80 - 100 cm, bed height from 35 - 45 cm suitable for the specific height of onion and garlic plants.

Along with the ridge milling machine, Mr. Nam continued to manufacture the sugarcane trench digging machine and crop irrigation pipes with the function of digging 30 - 40 cm deep, 30 cm wide trench; accessories for drilling holes for planting perennial trees, industrial trees, forestry with the function of digging holes 60 - 90 cm deep, 40 - 60 cm in diameter in just one minute (if digging manually, it would take many hours). These types of machines all meet the practical needs of farmers and are widely used in modern agriculture.

Development of modern agriculture

Having used Mr. Nam's ridge milling machine for a long time, Mr. Nguyen Van Thai (Minh Tan commune, Luong Tai district, Bac Ninh province) said that in the past, when there were no machines, farmers had to work hard when making crops, especially in the ridge making stage, which often used hoes and rakes, leading to low labor productivity, often not being able to keep up with the season.

Since the 5-in-1 integrated ridge milling system was available, the machine has completed ridge making for 1 sao of land in just 20 minutes. If done by human power with hoes and shovels, it would take a whole day of labor, while the ridges are not clean of soil, the ridges are not tight, when watering or raining, the soil will slide down the ridge, causing flooding, affecting the growth of crops.

Realizing the advantages of the machine, he decided to invest in a 5-in-1 integrated ridge milling machine not only for his family but also for hire, helping farmers keep up with the season.

To promote the product to a large number of people, Mr. Nam created a Youtube channel and regularly posted videos introducing the product, answering customers' questions; at the same time, directly instructing customers on how to use the product in accordance with the local terrain and soil type.

With many superior features, his ridge plowing machine is not only trusted and used by people in the district, the province and provinces and cities across the country.

Up to now, on average each year, Mr. Nam's factory supplies the market with 200 products, creating jobs for 5 regular workers with an income of 10 - 12 million VND/person/month.

His annual revenue from manufacturing and trading of machinery is billions of dong, giving him a profit of 400 million dong/year.

Sharing about his future direction, Mr. Nam said that he will continue to promote research and improve products to better meet the increasing needs of the people.

Besides, he actively learns, acquires experience and researches to create products that provide more support for agricultural production activities, helping people reduce labor, increase crop productivity and increase profits.

Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Bac Ninh Province, Dao Duy Huu, said that Mr. Phung Van Nam is a typical farmer, passionate about creativity and production. His agricultural machinery products are suitable for practical needs, widely applied in agricultural production of people in and outside the province, meeting scientific advances in the agricultural sector to increase productivity for farmers in general and develop the economy of his hometown and country.

With creative products that bring high economic efficiency to help local agriculture develop, Mr. Phung Van Nam was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province for his outstanding achievements in the patriotic emulation movement in the period 2015 - 2020.

He won the First Prize with the initiative "Technical improvement of Phung Nam ridge milling machine" organized by the Farmers' Association of Bac Ninh province in 2020; was honored by the Central Farmers' Association as "Farmer's Scientist" for the third time in 2020. In particular, in 2023, he was honored by the Central Farmers' Association as an Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer.
