The investment project to build Thuong Cat Bridge and the roads at both ends of the bridge was scheduled by Hanoi City to start on October 10, on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025).
The Thuong Cat Bridge project has a total length of bridge and roads at both ends of 5.226km, of which the main bridge is 780m long; the approach bridge is 3.125km long; the roads at both ends of the bridge are 1.321km long; the total investment is 7,303 billion VND, using the city budget.
Thuong Cat Bridge is designed with 8 lanes (6 motor lanes and 2 non-motorized lanes), the main bridge width is 35m, the approach bridge is 31m; the southern approach road has a typical cross-section of 60m (6 motor lanes, 2 non-motorized lanes on the main route and 2 parallel roads). The northern approach road has a typical cross-section of 50m (4 motor lanes, 2 parallel roads).
According to the plan approved by the Hanoi People's Committee, the starting point of the project is located at the intersection with Ky Vu Street, Thuong Cat Ward (old Bac Tu Liem District) - now Thuong Cat Ward. The end point is located at the intersection with Road 23B, Dai Mach Commune, Dong Anh District (old) - now Thien Loc Commune.
The investment in the construction of Thuong Cat Bridge will contribute to ensuring synchronization and smoothness in the investment of the entire Ring Road 3.5; at the same time, it will help reduce traffic load on Route 70, Ring Road 3 and form important infrastructure routes in the capital.
Previously, on January 25, 2024, Hanoi city held a ceremony to announce and award the architectural design competition for the Thuong Cat bridge project, with the first prize named " Peaceful Bird" with a main bridge consisting of 4 spans using a cable-stayed structure, the bridge piers are designed to curve slightly to both sides of the bridge in the shape of a bird's wings reaching high.
The bridge design is inspired by the birds in the proverb “Birds of a feather flock together in good land,” both harmoniously nestled in the rich ecosystem of the Red River and globally iconic.
