After the storm and flood, how did the price of green vegetables in Ha Tinh fluctuate?

(Baohatinh.vn) - After prolonged periods of heavy rain and floods, many vegetable growing areas in Ha Tinh were severely flooded, not only causing damage to large areas of winter vegetables, but also causing the prices of some green vegetables, especially spices, to increase, leading to local shortages.

At Binh Huong wholesale market (Tran Phu ward), prices of vegetables are constantly updated. After the storm, the supply of some vegetables is locally lacking, especially spices, leading to high prices.

According to Ms. Hai Ha - a trader at Binh Huong market, onions, coriander, basil... and vegetables such as mustard greens, cabbage, squash... are in short supply and quite expensive. Meanwhile, other vegetables such as carrots, white cabbage, squash... remain stable in price, at 12,000 VND/kg of white cabbage, 13,000 VND/kg of carrots...

In traditional markets, vegetables that are not affected by storms such as water spinach and sweet potato are imported in abundance, with large supply and stable prices. Sweet potato costs 20,000 VND/kg, water spinach 6,000-7,000 VND/bunch...

Ms. Trinh Thi Ha - a market trader in Ha Tinh province said: "The price of green vegetables has increased for spices, but the price of vegetables imported from the North remains stable. We are trying to ensure the supply of goods and stabilize prices to keep customers."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Trinh - a trader at Ha Tinh province market said: "Vegetables and spices in the main supply areas are all heavily flooded and damaged, so the supply is difficult and the price is high. Previously, 3,000 VND could buy a small bunch of basil, but now the price has increased to 7,000-8,000 VND, and it is very difficult to buy. Coriander, which used to cost 30,000 VND/kg, has now increased to 70,000 VND/kg; spinach, which cost 5,000 VND/bunch, is now up to 10,000-15,000 VND/bunch...".

Prices of spices and vegetables have increased sharply in the markets.

At the local markets, the prices of vegetables and fruits also increased slightly. People mainly sell vegetables from their home gardens such as: water spinach, sweet potato leaves, chives, okra, etc. Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh - a vegetable seller at Hoi market (Cam Xuyen commune) said: "Homegrown vegetables have increased less than imported vegetables. After the storm, the weather in the area is quite favorable, hopefully the vegetable villages will recover soon, ensuring supply for the market."

According to preliminary statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ha Tinh, the prolonged heavy rains have damaged hundreds of hectares of vegetables in the area. Many newly planted winter crops were completely lost or severely damaged due to deep flooding for many days. In addition, some safe vegetable areas according to VietGAP standards also had production interrupted, affecting the supply chain.

The vegetable market is expected to fluctuate in the next 1-2 weeks because it takes at least 15-20 days for vegetables to grow back after the flood, or even longer depending on weather conditions. Meanwhile, year-end consumer demand is starting to gradually increase.

According to many traders, now that the North is heavily affected, the supply of vegetables is expected to be scarcer in the near future, and the prices of winter vegetables and fruits are likely to increase.

Although vegetable prices have increased compared to before, many consumers sympathize with traders and farmers. Ms. Tran Thi Thuong (Ha Huy Tap ward) shared: "After the storm, vegetable prices increase, which is understandable. The damage caused by natural disasters is something no one wants. We only hope that after the first days of price increases, vegetable prices will soon stabilize again."

The post-storm vegetable market is going through a difficult period, but with the initiative of people and localities in restoring production, along with solutions to stabilize prices, the supply of green vegetables is expected to stabilize soon, well serving the consumption needs of people.
