On November 12, Mr. Nguyen Tri Ha - Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Ha Tinh province - said that the unit is waiting for reports from localities on the situation of orange fruit falling after the recent floods to accurately grasp the current situation of orange fruit falling in the area, the extent of damage...
According to Mr. Ha, the initial information that the unit has is that after the flood, some orange growing areas of people in Huong Khe and Vu Quang districts were flooded, causing a lot of orange fruit to fall off.
In addition, because oranges are sweet when ripe, they attract harmful insects, including forest butterflies and harmful fruit flies.
“We have also recommended that orange growers drain water from floods after heavy rains, prevent insects by covering the entire tree with nets, and harvest ripe fruit for sale to reduce damage,” Mr. Ha shared.
According to the Director of the Ha Tinh Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, every year during the rainy season, oranges experience fruit drop, but this year the fruit drop may be more severe.
The entire Ha Tinh province currently has about 7,700 hectares of orange plantations. The localities with large orange plantation areas are Vu Quang, Huong Son, Huong Khe, and Can Loc.
