Ranked fourth in the world for speed, Jupiter is one of the fastest supercomputers in the world. It could open up entirely new possibilities for training artificial intelligence models or scientific simulations.

Powered entirely by green electricity and capable of performing one trillion calculations per second, the supercomputer cost around 500 million euros ($539 million), with the European Commission contributing 250 million euros ($293 million), while the Federal Ministry of Science and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia each contributed 125 million euros ($147 million).

The Jupiter supercomputer's computing center was built over two years, consisting of about 50 container modules with an area of more than 2,300 m². The data it can store is equivalent to 450 billion books.

Jupiter will also be used to improve climate and weather simulations, helping to more accurately predict extreme events such as heavy rain or severe storms. In addition, the supercomputer will be used to study proteins, cells and the human brain to speed up the development of new treatments.
