The number of on-time flights reached only 64.6%

According to information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, in the first 9 months of 2025, the domestic aviation industry operated 210,341 flights, of which the number of on-time flights accounted for only 64.6%, down 10% over the same period last year.

Two airlines that maintained an on-time performance rate of over 80% were Bamboo Airways and VASCO. Pacific Airlines, Vietravel Airlines and Vietnam Airlines recorded average on-time performance rates of 78.5%, 70.6% and 70%, respectively. Vietjet Air had a lower on-time performance rate than the industry average, partly because it operated the largest number of flights.

Also in the past 9 months, domestic airlines have cancelled 0.7% of flights, equivalent to 1,380 flights. The main reason for delays and cancellations is the extreme weather in recent months.

In the last days of September and early October alone, many airports in the Northern and North Central regions recorded prolonged heavy rains due to the impact of storm circulation. At Noi Bai, heavy rains, wind shear and visibility reduced to less than 1km forced a series of flights to circle and divert to alternate airports. Typically, on September 30, up to 194 flights were delayed and 34 flights diverted due to bad weather.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested ports to ensure navigation and communication equipment, and increase the application of high-resolution weather forecasting models to detect thunderstorms and strong winds early and warn flight crews.

Airlines are also required to proactively adjust flight schedules and promptly update information to passengers via websites, applications and social networks, helping passengers proactively arrange their journeys.
