Summary of 3 years of implementing the Agricultural Cooperation Program between Lao Cai and Son La provinces

Implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on comprehensive cooperation between Lao Cai and Son La provinces (2021 - 2025 period), the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the two provinces has advised and proposed cooperation contents in the agricultural sector to serve the working delegations of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee. The two units have agreed on cooperation contents in the agricultural and rural sectors such as: Cooperation in research and application of science and technology in agricultural production; sharing experiences in animal husbandry; coordination, exchange of experiences, transfer of technology in seed production and research on breeding new varieties.

Organize study tours to study effective production models, individuals and good production and business units; exchange experiences in planning the development of craft villages, collective economy, farm economy, cooperatives; introduce and create conditions for businesses, cooperatives and investors to carry out procedures, implement investments to develop products with strengths suitable to the local agricultural development strategy...

As a result, from 2021 to now, the two provinces have organized online conferences to exchange and learn experiences in developing agricultural production. In 2022, the Lao Cai Provincial Delegation led by the Provincial Party Secretary had a working trip to Son La province. During the working trip, the two provinces exchanged and shared experiences in leadership, direction, deployment, implementation of strategies, planning, mechanisms, policies, breakthrough contents in developing commodity agricultural production; experience in developing agricultural tourism and community tourism. In 2023, Lao Cai organized a Trade Week to promote the consumption of Bac Ha Tam Hoa plum (Lao Cai) and Son La mango (in Lao Cai city) with a scale of 10 booths. In addition, it participated in displaying and introducing 2 booths at the Vietnam Fruit and OCOP Product Festival 2022 (in Son La); Participate in the 2022 Northwest - Son La Trade Fair; Lao Cai Provincial Agricultural Seed Center cooperates with Son La province in promoting quality rice varieties selected and created by Lao Cai...

In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lao Cai province and Son La province will continue to exchange and learn experiences in leadership, planning, mechanisms and policies for the development of agricultural commodities; coordinate to support businesses and cooperatives of the two localities to learn about potential products to connect and form regional links in production, processing and consumption of products.

Along with that, we will coordinate to organize fairs and agricultural weeks in the two provinces to introduce key products; support and cooperate in establishing two-way trade information channels, regularly exchange trade promotion information, market price information, and systems of agricultural product consumption facilities between the two provinces; support businesses and cooperatives to introduce and display OCOP products at tourist areas, rest stops, supermarket systems, and OCOP product display stores in the two provinces; put information and lists of typical products on the two provinces' electronic trading floors...

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing a number of key tasks and activities of the Agricultural Cooperation Program in the last 6 months of 2024 and 2025, and at the same time proposed solutions to improve the effectiveness of the Agricultural Cooperation Program between Lao Cai and Son La provinces, contributing to promoting sustainable development of the agricultural sector of the two provinces.
