Division 2 celebrates the 60th anniversary of the unit's traditional day and receives the First Class Fatherland Protection Medal

Also attending were the Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Chief of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; Chief of the Military Region 5 Command; Heroes of the People's Armed Forces; representatives of leaders of agencies, units, and localities; leaders and commanders of Division 2 through the periods.

Exactly 60 years ago, when the Southern revolution entered its most difficult phase, on October 20, 1965, in An Lam village, Phuoc Ha commune, Tien Phuoc district, Quang Nam province (now Da Nang city), Division 2 was officially established.

This is the main mobile force of Military Region 5, with the main task of concentrated combat to destroy enemy forces, closely linked with the mass movement, destroying the enemy, winning over people, liberating land, aiming at the goal of liberating Da Nang city.

The Division's main combat targets were the US expeditionary force and the main puppet army; the main combat area was from North Quang Ngai to Da Nang.

Only 1 month after its establishment, the Division entered the battle and achieved a resounding victory at the Hiep Duc-Dong Duong battle, completely destroying a puppet regiment and an American battalion. In the spring of 1966, the Division continued to make its mark with the victory at the 62 Dong Giap peak and the Tay Son Tinh campaign.

During the 10 years of resistance war against the US to save the country, 10 years of fighting to protect the Fatherland and carrying out international missions, the Division participated in over 20 campaigns, fought nearly 3,420 large and small battles; destroyed and captured more than 10,000 enemies with many bold and flexible fighting methods such as: "Initiating, attacking points, destroying reinforcements"; "Drawing the enemy from high to low"; "Luring the enemy from inside to outside"; "Surrounding, intercepting", "Combining attack and attack with posts"; "Fighting at night, fighting during the day"... achieving many resounding victories.

From 1988 to present, Division 2 has been stationed in the two provinces of Gia Lai and Dak Lak. In peacetime, the unit has always excellently completed its training tasks, been ready for combat, and actively participated in the movements of "Repaying gratitude", "Joining hands to build new rural areas", natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue... From that reality, the tradition of "Believe in, love your friends, love your people - Once you go, you will arrive, once you fight, you will win" has been increasingly embellished.

With its outstanding achievements, Division 2 was honored twice by the Party and State with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces and was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal and dozens of other noble medals and orders.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong acknowledged and commended the achievements that officers and soldiers of Division 2 have achieved over the past 60 years.

Faced with the requirements and tasks set out in the new situation, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong requested the unit to continue to seriously implement the resolutions, directives and orders of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense on the Homeland Protection Strategy in the new situation; focus on improving the quality of training and combat readiness, attach importance to practical, synchronous and in-depth training, focusing on practice, exploiting and skillfully using weapons and equipment in the establishment, especially new and modern weapons and equipment.

In addition, combining training with training of soldiers to make Division 2 truly become a serious and humane training environment, a place for all officers and soldiers of the Division to study, practice, progress and mature; promote the movement of innovation and creativity, promote research, application of information technology, administrative reform, digital transformation and actively study foreign languages and ethnic languages to successfully complete assigned tasks.

In addition, the Deputy Minister of National Defense emphasized that Division 2 focuses on building a clean and strong Party organization associated with building a comprehensively strong agency and unit that is "Exemplary and typical". Well implementing the guiding ideology of "Two determinations, two promotions and two preventions" of General Secretary To Lam at the 12th Congress of the Party Committee of the Army.

At the same time, regularly maintain and strengthen solidarity with local Party committees and authorities; closely coordinate with forces ready to participate in preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, epidemics, and non-traditional security.

Carry out well the work of mass mobilization and military rear policies, actively participate in building a strong grassroots political system, a solid people's position, contributing to maintaining political security and social order and safety in the stationed area.

"Celebrating 60 years of building, fighting and growing up and receiving the First Class Fatherland Protection Medal is an opportunity for each officer, employee and soldier of Division 2 to make more efforts to "study tradition, follow tradition, act for tradition to be worthy of tradition" of the heroic Division.

The Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense believe that, entering the new era, Division 2 will continue to promote the tradition of "Believe in, be loved by friends, and loved by the people - Once gone, we will arrive, once fought, we will win" of the twice-heroic unit, make more achievements, excellently complete all assigned tasks, worthy of the trust and love of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, the Standing Party Committee, the Military Region Command, local Party committees, authorities and people of all ethnic groups in the area" - the Deputy Minister of National Defense believes.

On this occasion, authorized by the President, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong awarded the First Class Fatherland Protection Medal to Division 2, a noble award recognizing the great contributions of generations of officers and soldiers of the Division in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
