Division 5: 'Godmother' - Bridge of Love

The "Godmother" program of Division 5 becomes a solid support, helping children overcome difficulties.

The Women's Associations in Division 5 actively connect, mobilize and sponsor 12 orphans with difficult circumstances living in Chau Thanh commune (Tay Ninh province) and Phu Giao commune ( Ho Chi Minh City). Not only providing material care, every month, the "godmothers" also regularly visit and encourage the children, bringing them warm and close feelings like family members.

After more than 3 years of implementation, each child has received nearly 80 million VND in support along with rice, meat, fish, eggs and vegetables produced by the officers and soldiers in the unit. The gifts, though simple, are full of military-civilian affection.

Major Phan Thi Kim Oanh - President of the Women's Union of Regiment 4 said: "Every time we give gifts and see the smiles of the children, we feel warm. This is not only material support but also sincere feelings, sharing love. It is also the motivation for us to continue to be responsible for directing and mobilizing units and philanthropists to accompany and support the children."

The pain of being orphaned haunts the young soul of Dinh Thi Yen Vy (born in 2011, Chau Thanh commune, Tay Ninh province). Her father passed away due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The life of the mother and daughter became difficult. However, thanks to the help from the "Godmother" program, she was given more faith and determination to continue going to school.

Yen Vy shared: “My father passed away due to the epidemic, and our family’s life has been very difficult. Thanks to the support of my mothers, uncles and aunts at Division 5, I have been able to attend school and have more motivation to try. I promise to study hard so as not to let my mothers, uncles and aunts down.”

In order to replicate this meaningful model, Division 5 has stepped up propaganda through official information channels, internal loudspeakers, local media channels and social networks. The touching stories of "mothers" and "children" have contributed to strongly spreading the humanistic values of the program, attracting the participation of cadres, women's union members, union members, youth in the Division and its sister units, and philanthropists.

Lieutenant Colonel Phan Hoai Quyet - Deputy Political Commissar of Division 5 shared: "Losing a father or mother is a great pain for the children. The program is to spread the love and responsibility of soldiers to the community, especially to the future generations of the country."
