Dak Lak province, the Central Highlands region, is placing high hopes on karate as a key development direction in high-performance sports . And up to now, this martial art has not only made its mark but also affirmed its position as one of the province's key sports after the merger.

As an imported martial art, karate quickly established its position in Dak Lak . In response to the need to develop the movement, in 2007, the Dak Lak Karate Association was officially established. Up to now, the karate training movement has spread throughout the province, with more than 1,000 clubs and more than 4,000 people participating in regular training, mainly young people and children. This is an important foundation for the development of high-performance sports as well as the physical training movement in the community.

According to Mr. Le Tan Lop, Chairman of Dak Lak Karate Association, since its inception, the karate movement has developed strongly but mainly concentrated in the district and city centers (old). Realizing the love of young people in remote areas, the Executive Committee of the association has proactively developed a plan, inviting professional and dedicated coaches to directly teach at schools and cultural centers in remote communes. Up to now, karate has developed quite evenly throughout the province and is assessed by experts as one of the localities with the strongest karate movement development in the country.

Since 2016, many national karate tournaments have been continuously held in Dak Lak, creating a strong driving force to promote the practice movement to all communes in the province. At Truong Trung Vuong Karate Club (Buon Ma Thuot city), every night from 6pm to 7pm, more than 100 martial artists diligently practice in a lively and serious atmosphere. With their passion for this foreign martial art, they perform movements from basic to advanced smoothly and accurately. Not only training for health, many martial artists also dream of becoming members of the provincial karate team, and going further to wear the national team jersey.

After the merger of Dak Lak and Phu Yen into the new Dak Lak province from July 1, the core force has been supplemented with talented martial artists. Previously, both localities had their own strengths in karate, affirming their position in the domestic and regional arena. The combination of the experience of martial artists from Phu Yen (old) such as Van Minh Hieu or the potential generation Tran Nguyen Nha Han, Nguyen Ngoc Bao Ngoc and the strengths of Dak Lak (old) such as Nguyen Thi Thao, Ho Loc, Tran Dang Long helps the province's karate have a strong and quality team.

Efforts to improve karate have brought about commendable achievements. At the 2025 National Karate Championship in Hue in June, the Dak Lak team with 8 athletes won 4 medals: 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze, ranking 10th out of 34 delegations - a step up from last year. Notably, at the 25th National Karate Club Championship in July in Buon Ma Thuot, attracting more than 800 athletes from 57 clubs nationwide. As the host, Dak Lak excelled in winning 4 gold medals and the Dak Lak 1 team ranked 10th overall. In addition, the 2025 Provincial Karate Championship for Youth and Children gathered nearly 600 athletes, with diverse events that discovered many young talents...

Currently, Dak Lak karate continues to be considered one of the strongest localities in the country. After the merger, martial artists from the “sea-forest land” have come together under one roof, creating a synergistic strength, increasing resources and opening up prospects for more success in the future.
