When old age is the second spring

If the first spring is the time of youth full of vitality, then the “second spring” is the time when people enter their twilight years but still live happily, healthily and usefully. That is when the elderly still participate in community, cultural and sports activities, preserve traditions, educate their children and grandchildren, and spread good values ​​of life.

By joining the Elderly Association, members have the opportunity to exchange and participate in activities to live happily and healthily.

The Association of the Elderly (NCT) of Thai Nguyen province has always been a solid support for the generation of "tall trees and shady people" with the spirit of "Old age - Bright example", actively contributing to the development of the community and society. With close direction from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, local Party committees and authorities and synchronous coordination with sectors, the work of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly in the province in recent times has achieved many outstanding results.

Currently, the whole Thai Nguyen province has 92/92 grassroots Elderly Associations, 3,158 branches and 1,645 groups. The total number of members is 220,868 elderly, of which 14,195 are under 60 years old. The work of consolidating the organization after the merger is still difficult, there are still 26 communes and wards that have not yet completed the Association President.

However, the Association at all levels has made efforts to overcome this, organizing 121 professional training courses for nearly 4,800 Association officials, updating knowledge on the Association's Charter, Party policies, State policies and laws, environmental protection, socio -economic development, maintaining security and order, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas...

One of the key contents that the Association at all levels is interested in implementing is health care for the elderly. In the first 9 months of 2025, 80,649 elderly people received periodic health check-ups, 86,564 elderly people had their initial health check-up books established, and 204,154 people had health insurance cards.

The birthday wishes and celebrations were held solemnly, in accordance with regulations, demonstrating the respect and morality of "respecting the elderly and achieving longevity" of the nation. The whole province had 24,800 people being wished longevity. Notably, there were 397 people over 100 years old, 162 people who turned 100 years old, and thousands of people aged 70-95 were also honored and encouraged.

On the occasion of Lunar New Year, the elderly who are policy beneficiaries and in difficult circumstances receive gifts from all levels and sectors. In addition, all grassroots associations have a Fund to care for and promote the role of the elderly, with a total fund balance of more than 52.9 billion VND, ensuring resources to maintain regular activities.

Not only taking care of material things, the Association at all levels also pays special attention to the spiritual life of the elderly. The whole province currently has 1,203 clubs, attracting more than 45,700 members to participate in cultural, sports, and artistic activities... Of which, there are 272 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs (LTHTGN) - a model that the Central Association is orienting to replicate until 2035.

Health care performances, volleyball competitions, traditional singing and dancing, and club exchanges held on major festivals and traditional New Year's Eve have become a colorful "second spring" for the elderly in Thai Nguyen.

Not only "living happily and healthily", the elderly in Thai Nguyen also "live usefully" through specific contributions in political and social activities, preserving culture, and building a new life in the community. Currently, the whole province has 12,501 elderly people holding positions such as Party cell secretary, neighborhood leader, village chief, veteran association president, people's inspector... Not only participating in Party activities and mass organizations, many elderly people are also the core in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and style.

Notably, the movement “Old age - Bright example” associated with building a cultural life and model family has spread strongly. The elderly actively participate in movements to protect national security, provide many valuable sources of information, and coordinate with functional forces in propagating and preventing crimes and social evils.

In economic development, many elderly people are still the main labor force, a shining example for their children and grandchildren. The whole province has 1,566 elderly people who are farm owners, 2,041 people who have achieved the title of good economic performance at all levels. There is a startup group of elderly people with 12 members - a clear demonstration of the spirit of innovation and creativity regardless of age.

In particular, responding to the movement to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas, the elderly and their families have donated nearly 189,000 square meters of land, contributed more than 47,600 working days and more than 6.2 billion VND. These are not only impressive numbers, but also a beautiful image of patriotism and community responsibility of the "white-haired, red-hearted" generation.

All these efforts have affirmed that the elderly are not a burden, but continue to dedicate, contribute and inspire the next generation. With a sense of responsibility, a will to improve, and the attention of the authorities and the community, the elderly today are living a life worth cherishing - full of joy, health, pride and meaning.
