Man United have officially announced the blockbuster deal of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old Slovenian striker has signed a contract until the summer of 2030, for a fee of around £73 million.
This deal marks a big victory for the "red devils" in the transfer market, as they have surpassed direct competitor Newcastle United.
Although the "magpies" were said to have made a more attractive offer and it was accepted by RB Leipzig, it was Sesko who decided to choose Old Trafford as his next destination.
Immediately after completing the signing, Man United seemed to have a "teasing" move towards Newcastle on social media with the status line: "It was only ever United".
In his first interview as a "red devil", Sesko revealed the reason he turned down Newcastle to join the team.
"The history of Man United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future of the club," Sesko explained.
The Slovenian new signing was extremely impressed with the environment at the club: "From the moment I set foot here, I felt the positive energy and family atmosphere that the club has created. This is clearly the perfect place for me to reach the highest level and realise all my ambitions."
“I can’t wait to start learning from coach Ruben Amorim, and connecting with my new teammates to achieve the success we all know we are capable of,” he added.
Newcastle's failure to sign Sesko could affect the future of Alexander Isak, who is being pursued by Liverpool. However, it is reported that the "Magpies" have confirmed that they will not sell the Swedish striker this summer.
