No storm number 12 recorded in the East Sea

At a press conference on October 6, Mr. Hoang Duc Cuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Hydrometeorology said that storm Ha Long is currently active in the northwest Pacific region, but is unlikely to enter the East Sea. This is the 22nd storm to form in this region since the beginning of the season.

According to the forecast of the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), in the next few days, storm Ha Long will move eastward, towards the sea southeast of Japan and then gradually weaken, completely not affecting mainland Vietnam.

In response to rumors circulating on social media about storm No. 12 appearing after storm Matmo (storm No. 11), the Department of Hydrometeorology confirmed that the East Sea has only recorded storm No. 11. The conditions for forming a tropical cyclone at this time are not suitable for the appearance of the next storm.

Mr. Cuong said that the possibility of storm number 12 appearing in the near future is there, but certainly not at the present time.

The meteorological industry is still closely monitoring all developments in the sea area east of the Philippines and south of China to detect dangerous weather systems early.

Storm and rain forecast from now until the end of the year

According to forecasts, the ENSO phenomenon will remain neutral and tend to lean slightly towards the cold phase, but not strong enough to transition to the La Nina cycle. Under these conditions, from now until the end of 2025, the East Sea may see 4-5 storms or tropical depressions, of which 2-3 are likely to directly affect Vietnam, higher than the average of many years.

Experts warn people in coastal and mountainous areas in the North to proactively prevent heavy rain, flash floods and landslides that may occur as the storm season enters its final stages.
