Sumitomo Group wants the North Hanoi Smart City project to become a symbol of Vietnam - Japan

On the afternoon of July 22, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Yukihito Honda, CEO of the diversified urban development division of Sumitomo Corporation (Japan).

Sumitomo leaders reported on the group's activities in Vietnam, the progress of investment projects in construction and infrastructure business of Thanh Hoa Industrial Park (phase 1), participation in the joint venture project of the North Hanoi smart city; proposed the Van Phong 2 gas power plant project.

Mr. Yukihito Honda said that Sumitomo wants to make the North Hanoi smart city project a symbol of Vietnam-Japan relations. The group wants to continue promoting cooperation in the fields of energy, railways, smart cities and will continue to make efforts to contribute to the increasingly good relations between the two countries.

Highly appreciating Sumitomo's investment projects in Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that these are all projects with large investment capital, having a spillover effect on socio -economic development in localities with the group's projects in particular and Vietnam in general, contributing to promoting Vietnam - Japan relations.

In the context of the Vietnam-Japan comprehensive strategic partnership developing very well, the Prime Minister suggested that both sides promote practical and effective cooperation projects.

The Vietnamese Government, ministries, branches and localities will support and create all favorable conditions for Japanese enterprises in general and Sumitomo Corporation in particular to deploy investment and business activities effectively and sustainably. Ensure publicity, transparency, reduce administrative procedures and comply with legal regulations, promptly resolve problems and put projects into operation.

Regarding the proposal for the Van Phong 2 Gas Power Plant project, the Prime Minister welcomed Sumitomo's proposal to convert the project to using LNG, assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to coordinate in handling necessary procedures, and asked the group to study access to capital sources within the framework of the Asian Zero Net Emissions Community (AZEC).

Regarding the North Hanoi smart city project, the Prime Minister requested the group to coordinate with Vietnamese partners to implement it seriously, quickly, in accordance with legal regulations, in the spirit of equality, harmonious benefits, shared risks and a strong combination of Vietnamese and Japanese cultures.

The Prime Minister also asked Sumitomo to continue actively participating in urban railway projects in Ho Chi Minh City.

Accordingly, Mr. Honda thanked the Government, the Prime Minister, ministries, branches and localities for their attention, facilitation and timely handling of difficulties and problems with Sumitomo's investment projects in Vietnam, affirming that he will promote the projects to be implemented quickly, seriously, effectively and sustainably as directed by the Prime Minister.
