Precision strike of Russian Iskander-M missiles

The Russian military destroyed an air defense system and a radar station of Kiev forces in Ukraine's Sumy region, Russian media reported on August 25.

Accordingly, Russia launched an attack using Iskander-M tactical ballistic missiles. The Russian military's precision strike destroyed a Soviet-made Buk-M1 medium-range air defense system being used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces near the Gritsenkovo settlement.

Meanwhile, near the settlement of Shevchenkovo, Russia also launched a Lancet suicide drone attack. The target was a Soviet-made ST-68 airborne surveillance radar, the result of the precise attack was the destruction of the Ukrainian radar system.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces had about 70 Buk-M1 systems before Russia began its special military operation in Ukraine. Some of these systems have been upgraded to the Buk-M1-2 standard. Ukraine also inherited dozens of ST-68 systems from the Soviet Union, many of which have been upgraded in recent years.

In early August, Kiev forces backed by foreign mercenaries launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Russia's Kursk region.

The Russian military halted the offensive within days and has since inflicted heavy losses on Kiev forces. According to the latest information from the Russian Defense Ministry , Ukraine has lost five air defense systems and a radar station since the offensive began.

Russian troops have taken control of part of Novogrodovka.

On August 25, AVP reported that military analyst Yuri Podolyaka reported that the Russian army had made significant progress in the Pokrovsky direction. According to him, on the evening of August 25, 2024, units of the Russian Armed Forces completed the operation to divide the city of Novogrodovka into two parts, gaining control of the part with many high-rise buildings.

Ukrainian sources confirm that the resistance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this part of the city is concentrated. Apparently, the task of the Ukrainian army is not to hold the city, but to restrain the Russian units to have time to prepare defensive lines west and south of Novogrodovka.

It is interesting to note that, unlike some other settlements, there was no heavy fighting in Novogrodovka. This may be due to the lack of Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel in the area. Due to the lack of troops, they were unable to mount a comprehensive defense. Although the fighting was not as intense in the areas where it was taking place, the Russian units were forced to clear every house, which slowed down the pace of the attack.
