Prasat Kong Pagoda, also known as Tac Gong Pagoda, or Tac Pagoda, was built in the period after the Tran Dynasty around the 14th century and has undergone many renovations and repairs to become an extremely beautiful and unique architectural work. Tac Gong Pagoda is famous for its Angkor-style architecture, especially its soaring plaster carvings like lotus flowers, majestic silk mosaics and ancient paintings on a sophisticated gray hand-painted background.

The main hall was originally built with egg stone - an uncommon material, creating a special feature for the project. Currently, the temple has been rebuilt but still retains the typical Angkor style through a system of sophisticated motifs and shapes. The most impressive is the lotus pond to the east of the main hall. In the middle of the lake, there is a stupa, where the relics of the abbots are enshrined. Besides, there is also a statue of Buddha meditating on the back of a majestic 7-headed dragon, protecting Buddha from the sun and rain - a legendary and respectful image. In the temple grounds, there are many preserved and displayed works of art, from Buddha statues, idols to paintings telling the story and life of Buddha Shakyamuni and his disciples. The temple landscape is airy and peaceful, creating a pure spiritual space, attracting many tourists and Buddhists from all over to visit and pray.

Tac Gong Pagoda is also known for its long history and profound spiritual traditions. The pagoda is home to many historical and cultural relics, and is the site of many spiritual activities, such as festivals, celebrations, and peace-praying ceremonies. In Khmer, Prasat means “Tower”, Kong means “reign” - often used to refer to kings or royalty. Thus, Prasat Kong means “King’s Tower”. According to legend, during the Khmer boat racing festivals held on the river, when the king came to watch, he often “reigned” at the pagoda, so the pagoda has this special name. This shows that the pagoda is not only a place of worship but also a gathering, trading and cultural point of the ancient Khmer community.

The Khmer people in the South have a rich cultural and spiritual life, in which festivals play a very important role, both having religious significance and being associated with agricultural production and community life. Every year, the three biggest festivals of the Khmer people, Chol Chnam Thmay, Sen Dolta and Ok Om Bok, are held very solemnly, and there are also many unique folk games such as Ngo boat racing, lantern releasing, Du Ke singing, Lam Thon dancing (Ram Vong)...

Prasat Kong Pagoda is an attractive spiritual tourist destination in Can Tho, attracting many tourists to visit and participate in spiritual activities. Coming to Prasat Kong Pagoda, visitors will experience a peaceful space, learn about the spiritual culture of the local people and understand more about the vibrant flow of Khmer culture.
