Thanh Hoa: Suspension bridge flooded, more than 200 people in Ma village isolated

(Dan Tri) - Rising river water has flooded the suspension bridge leading to the community tourism village in Thuong Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province, isolating 50 households with more than 200 people.

According to information from the People's Committee of Thuong Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province, due to the influence of low pressure and the northeast monsoon, from the night of September 21 to the morning of September 23, there was moderate rain, heavy rain, and very heavy rain in some places in this district, with total rainfall commonly measured at 200-250mm. Heavy rain from upper Laos, combined with the discharge of floodwaters from Cua Dat reservoir, caused flooding in low-lying communes such as Xuan Cao, Tho Thanh, Xuan Duong, Ngoc Phung, and Thuong Xuan town.

In addition, due to heavy rain, the water level of rivers and streams rose, the dams were flooded deeply, flowing rapidly, and many traffic routes were cut off. In particular, the floodwaters on the Chu River rose so high that the suspension bridge leading to Ma village (Thuong Xuan town) was deeply flooded on both sides of the bridge, isolating 50 households with 200 people of this village.

"Ma village is still safe, this is a tourist village, people are still self-sufficient in daily life and food, only traffic through the bridge is cut off. Cua Dat reservoir is discharging water at a flow rate of 2,200m3/second. To ensure the safety of the people, local officials must be on duty 24/7 in flooded areas and spillways, especially we have very strict control, not allowing people to go into the forest to work these days", said the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thuong Xuan district. According to the leader, due to the complex terrain and strong division, from noon to dawn on September 23, the locality evacuated 273 households, with 1,057 people to safety. At the same time, continue to direct communes and towns in the area to follow the "4 on-site" motto.
