Son La city strives to reach new heights, becoming the driving force for development of the province.

With the attention of the province, the efforts of the Party Committee, the government of the people of all ethnic groups, Son La city has developed remarkably, worthy of being the economic, political , cultural and social center of the province; is the premise for the city to strive to become a type I urban area, carrying the cultural identity of the ethnic groups specific to the Northwest sub-region.

In recent times, the City People's Committee, with a more decisive and effective spirit, has been determined to complete the goals and tasks of Conclusion 1139-KL/TU of the City Party Executive Committee and the targets and tasks according to the Resolution of the City People's Council, focusing on the task: "Effectively organizing budget collection solutions; drastically implementing site clearance for key projects; speeding up construction progress, disbursement and payment of investment capital and target programs; striving to build Hua La commune to meet advanced rural standards; taking care of developing education , health care, culture; ensuring society; maintaining political security, social order and safety".

The city's appearance has changed dramatically.

After 15 years of construction and development, with the attention and orientation of the Central Government; the leadership and direction of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee and the entire political system of the province, the Party Committee, the government and the people of all ethnic groups in Son La city have united, been dynamic, creative, promoted local potential and strengths, and achieved many comprehensive achievements in all fields.

Specifically, the city's economic structure has shifted in a positive direction, with total state budget revenue over the past 3 years reaching 3,476 billion VND, a growth rate of 6.5%/year; of which, local budget revenue by 2022 will reach nearly 777 billion VND. Total social investment capital over the past 3 years has reached 22,000 billion VND, a growth rate of 7%/year. Trade promotion activities have been promoted, connecting 52 products to e-commerce platforms; exporting 17,900 tons of coffee beans, with an export value of more than 63 million USD. Agriculture has developed in the direction of applying high technology, clean agriculture, and organic agriculture.

The city's urban development has been promoted in a synchronous and modern direction, preserving the identity of ethnic groups. Up to now, the project to build and develop Son La city in the direction of a type I urban area and green, fast and sustainable development has been completed; the adjustment of the general planning for Son La city to 2045 and 4 zoning plans according to the approved general planning has been approved. The coverage rate of detailed planning and zoning plans compared to the general planning has reached 67.2%. The urbanization rate has been ensured to be synchronous according to population size and urban development, the urbanization rate has reached 68.63%.

In addition, hundreds of large and small projects of the province and city have been completed and put into use, such as: Northwest Square, 550-bed hospital...; many corporations have invested in building urban areas, commercial centers Picenza, Vincom, Shining City... creating a modern young urban face.

The city's cultural and social fields have made much progress, and people's health care has received attention. Education and training continue to hold the leading position in the province, key education has been improved, maintaining the quality of 37/45 schools meeting national standards; being the first unit in the province to meet national standards for universalizing lower secondary education. Cultural institutions have been strengthened, 100% of communes and wards have community learning centers. Cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities have been maintained and developed, promoting the identity and fine cultural traditions of ethnic groups.

At the same time, social security is given attention and implemented fully and promptly; the poverty rate is 0.24%, the rate of vocational training for rural workers is 67.7%. National defense is maintained; security and order are enhanced.

The city is the first unit of the province and one of 10 district-level units nationwide to complete the National Population Database Project, the Project on production, issuance and management of citizen identification cards, creating a solid foundation for building a digital government. Foreign affairs continue to be expanded, especially maintaining friendly relations with Sam Neua district and Huoi Sai district (Laos).

In particular, Son La city actively participates in digital transformation. The Standing Committee of the City Party Committee focuses on directing the effective operation of the Intelligent Operation Center (IOC) with 8 groups of data systems and on 4 pillars (digital infrastructure, digital government, digital economy, digital society); establishing 792 community digital transformation teams, 52 digital transformation teams in schools, 2 digital transformation teams in markets...

The city has also paid special attention to Party building and strengthening the political system. Up to now, there are 41 grassroots party organizations, 277 party cells under the grassroots party committees and over 9,200 party members. Promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle in conjunction with implementing the Central Resolution 4, terms XI and XII, on Party building and rectification.

Striving to become a class I city

Promoting the spirit of self-reliance, overcoming difficulties, closely following the leadership and management viewpoints of the Government, Central Ministries and branches, and the province, in the coming time, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the City are determined to successfully complete key goals and tasks such as:

Firstly, focus on completing planning; developing socio-economic infrastructure, especially synchronous transport infrastructure, in a modern direction, expanding urban space, building Son La city towards type I urban development, green, fast and sustainable development. Strengthening administrative reform, improving the investment and business environment, creating breakthroughs in attracting capital from the private sector for socio-economic infrastructure development, industries and fields with potential and advantages.

Second, promote the transformation of urban economic structure, increase people's income, in the direction of prioritizing the development of trade services and e-commerce. Complete the goal of building Son La city to meet the criteria of advanced new rural areas by 2025. Effectively carry out social security work; preserve and promote the cultural identity of ethnic groups.

Third , build a Smart City, orient towards digital government, focus on planning, building and managing smart urban infrastructure; build a shared database connected to the province's database. Complete the construction of e-government, towards digital government, digital economy and digital society in a suitable, practical and effective manner.

Fourth , ensure political security, social order and safety; maintain Chieng Den commune as a drug-free area and transform the remaining communes and wards into drug-free areas. Resolutely implement and ensure the content and roadmap of Project 06/TTCP and 05 topics on preventing and combating law violations in schools.

Fifth , strengthen Party building, consolidate the political system, build a team of qualified cadres, and build high-quality human resources. Implement Resolution No. 02-NQ/TU dated January 21, 2021 of the Provincial Party Executive Committee with the goal of building and consolidating a strong political system; innovating leadership methods, improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of the Party organization.

Believing that the achievements over the past 15 years are the premise for Son La City to reach new heights, becoming a driving force in the development of the province and the Northwest sub-region.

On October 26, 2008, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son La province solemnly held a ceremony to announce the Government's Decree on the establishment of Son La city in Son La province. This is an important historical milestone during the 47 years of construction and development of Son La town.

In recognition of its outstanding achievements over the past 15 years, Son La city was honored to receive the Second Class Independence Medal, Third Class Labor Medal, 3 Government Emulation Flags for outstanding units leading the emulation movement, 3 Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister and many other awards from the Party and State.
