On August 29, Da Huoai Forest Protection Department ( Lam Dong province) announced that it had received and cared for a rare and injured black-shanked douc langur handed over by local people.
At around 2:20 p.m. on August 26, on the way back from Bao Lam 5 commune (Lam Dong province), Tran Ngoc Phu (30 years old, village 2, Da Teh 2 commune, Lam Dong province), Le Tieu Han (25 years old, village 2A, Da Teh commune, Lam Dong province) and Nguyen Thanh Tam (32 years old, Ha Oai village, Da Teh 3 commune, Lam Dong province) discovered a langur lying on provincial road 725 (Con O pass section, Da Teh 3 commune, Lam Dong province).
When discovered by three locals, the langur had an injured leg and was unable to move.
Realizing that this was a rare wild animal, the three men brought the langur to the Da Teh 3 Commune Police Station (Lam Dong Province) to hand it over. Immediately after, the Commune Police contacted the Da Huoai Forest Protection Department (Lam Dong Province) to receive, care for and handle it according to regulations.

The Black-shanked Douc (Pygathrix nigripes) is a primate listed as Critically Endangered (CR) in the World Red Book and the Vietnam Red Book. This species is also listed in Appendix I of the CITES Convention, which prohibits the exploitation, trade, import, export and transit of specimens for commercial purposes.
