Thailand and Peru were the two main markets supplying mangoes to Korea in the first nine months of 2023, accounting for 80.3% of total imports.

In particular, the leading market is the Thai market with 13 thousand tons, worth 38.7 million USD, up 30.1% in volume and 17.1% in value over the same period in 2022; followed by the Peruvian market with 5.9 thousand tons, worth 31.5 million USD, down 16.1% in volume and down 16.3% in value.

Vietnam is the third largest mango supplier to Korea, however, the import volume from Vietnam only accounts for 7.3% of Korea's total mango imports in the first 9 months of 2023, reaching 1.7 thousand tons, worth 7.2 million USD, up 19.6% in volume and 18.1% in value over the same period in 2022.

Mangoes are considered to have export potential to demanding markets, contributing to the development of Vietnam's agricultural sector. However, in the Korean market, Vietnamese mangoes still account for a small proportion, so there is still much room to promote the export of this product to Korea in the near future.

According to freshplaza.com, South Korea is increasingly shifting its focus to tropical fruits. Seasonal fruits in Korea will change dramatically in the coming decades, as warmer temperatures gradually reduce the cultivation area for popular fruit crops here.

Apples, grapes and pears may gradually decline in the Korean market, while tropical fruits such as mango and passion fruit will gain an increasingly important position in this market.
