Candidates with higher scores than the standard score but not admitted, school speaks up

(Dan Tri) - Ho Chi Minh City Banking University spoke up about the incident where a candidate scored higher than the standard score but has not yet received an admission notice.

On August 26, Banking University officially informed about the candidate's reflection of achieving a score higher than the standard score but not yet receiving admission notification.

According to the school, the admission principles of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City have been announced through the admission project (No. 1920/QD/DHNH dated June 11, 2025 of the President of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City) and the admission principles in the announcement of the threshold score to ensure input quality (No. 1122/TB-DHNH-HDTS dated July 23, 2025).

For Law, Economic Law, Economic Law (partial English), the minimum total admission score is 18 points (calculated on a 30-point scale). Subject combinations including math and literature, or math or literature must achieve a minimum of 6 points or higher on a 10-point scale.

For other methods, math and literature scores are converted to the corresponding 10-point scale.

To ensure the Ministry of Education and Training confirms admission before 5:00 p.m. on August 30, Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City receives inquiries about admission results through the school's admissions department.

Previously, there were many opinions reflecting that the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City had adjusted the admission conditions announcement, causing candidates with higher scores to still not be admitted. These opinions said that even though their test scores were higher than the school's announced standards, they still could not be admitted to the Law and Economic Law majors because the school had adjusted the admission conditions.

Specifically, X., an anonymous candidate, said that although his test score was 0.75 points higher than the standard score for the Economic Law major, he still failed because he only scored 5.25 in math. Notably, math was not included in the candidate's admission combination.

X. affirmed that when the school announced the minimum admission score, the school's admission information still clearly stated the law major criteria as " admission combinations with math and literature, or math or literature must achieve a minimum of 6 points (on a scale of 10, with other methods, math and literature scores are converted accordingly) ".

However, on August 24, when candidates looked up the regulations, the criteria had been revised to: " Candidates must achieve a minimum of 6 points in math and literature (on a 10-point scale, with other methods, math and literature scores are converted accordingly) ."

This means that candidates must score 6 points or higher in both math and literature, instead of just 6 points in one of the two subjects. Many candidates failed in surprise. Because the change happened after they had registered their wishes.

One noteworthy point is that in the 2025 high school graduation exam, only 12.2% of candidates scored 7 or higher in math, and up to 56.4% scored below average. A score of 6 in math can be considered a fair score for candidates in the natural sciences and a difficult score for candidates in the social sciences.
