These days, garden owners renting out apricot blossoms for Tet in Quang Nam are working hard to serve the needs of customers.
Many apricot flower garden owners in Quang Nam said that they have faced harsh weather recently but have persevered in taking care of each apricot pot, hoping to bring quality products to meet the Tet holiday needs of local people.
Meeting us while taking care of his apricot garden, Mr. Do Thien, in Tam My Tay commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province said: “My garden has about 50 flower pots ranging in age from 5 to over 30 years old. Currently, these flower pots have been rented by nearly 70% of government agencies and people. The good news is that despite the difficult economic situation, the apricot garden is still supported by customers.”
To make renting apricot blossoms for Tet more effective, Mr. Thien transported many pots of apricot blossoms along Highway 1A, through Tam Hiep commune, Nui Thanh district for people to choose and rent apricot blossoms to display for Tet.
Sharing about the difficulties of taking care of apricot trees this year, Mr. Do Thien said: “In more than 30 years of pursuing this profession, this is the first time I have witnessed such erratic weather. Last month, the area had little sunshine, a lot of rain, and was very cold, unlike the weather in the months before Tet as usual. Therefore, the apricot trees bloomed slowly. Some other garden owners had to come here to offer to rent apricot trees from me to have goods to supply to the market.”
But thanks to his experience in growing and caring for apricot trees, Mr. Thien has adjusted the time for fertilizing and leaf-picking appropriately, because if he picks the leaves a few weeks earlier or later, the gardener may lose all his efforts for the whole year. In addition, if the apricot tree shows signs of slow flowering, he must turn on the lamp to provide enough heat for the apricot tree to flower in time.
“Currently, I rent out apricot trees at different prices. If the apricot tree is large, has a beautiful shape, and has many bright yellow flowers, the price is high. On average, I rent it for 10 to 20 million VND for more than 10 days of Tet. After the customer chooses and is satisfied, I will transport it to them. When Tet is over, I will come and take care of it,” said Mr. Do Thien.
Meanwhile, in Mr. Doan Van Dung's apricot garden in Quang Lang block, Dien Nam Trung commune, Dien Ban town, Quang Nam province, the days before Tet are deserted, the reason is that the apricot trees bloom slowly, leading to few customers coming to rent apricot trees. Mr. Dung said that for many years growing apricot trees, his family owns more than 150 large and small apricot trees, but this year the weather has affected the apricot trees to bud and bloom slowly, many apricot trees will not bloom in time for the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025.
“This year, I only have a few apricot flower pots for rent to customers, so my revenue is not as much as in previous years. I hope the weather will be warm and sunny in the coming days so that the apricot flower pots can bloom in time,” Mr. Dung shared.
The profession of renting mai trees for Tet holiday has only recently been established in Quang Nam but is growing day by day. This profession serves a variety of customers, from people with little money to rent small mai trees, people with money to rent large mai trees worth tens of millions of dong, or offices renting mai trees to display during Tet. It is convenient in that it does not require much effort to care for, does not take up garden space, and does not take up space in the house all year round, making it very convenient for many people.
