Unanimously implement the project to develop high-quality beef cattle herd

This afternoon, September 24, Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong chaired a working session with Quang Tri Commercial Organic Agriculture Joint Stock Company on the project to develop a high-quality beef herd associated with the construction of an experimental center, agricultural technology transfer and product consumption linkage. According to the report of Quang Tri Commercial Organic Agriculture Joint Stock Company, in order to receive 100 breeding cows including: 80 Senepol crossbred breeding cows, Zebu crossbred (Brahman crossbred, Sind crossbred) and 20 BBB crossbred beef cows donated by Hanoi City; implementing the policy of the Provincial People's Committee, the company has built an experimental and agricultural technology transfer center in Hai Dinh commune, Hai Lang district with an area of ​​8.4 hectares.

Investing nearly 6 billion VND to implement the project including investment preparation costs, building barns, food storage houses, manure processing houses, earthworm houses, wastewater treatment areas...

Up to now, after 9 months of raising at the center, it has been shown that the breeding herd adapts well to the local climate conditions, the F1 generation of BBB beef cattle has shown good growth results. The barn uses biological bedding from sawdust of acacia and cajuput trees to help minimize odors.

In order to evaluate the effectiveness and proactiveness in organizing livestock breeding, building experimental models for the breeding herd transferred by Hanoi City, the company proposed to implement a project to develop a high-quality beef herd associated with building an experimental center, transferring agricultural techniques and linking product consumption. The project implementation period is from 2023 to 2027.

The specific objective of the project is to evaluate the adaptability to local climate conditions and food sources; the growth and reproductive ability of Senepol crossbred cows, Zebu crossbred cows for breeding, and BBB crossbred cows for meat received from Hanoi City.

Develop formulas and feed rations suitable for conditions in Quang Tri. Participate in providing services such as feed, output... contributing to the formation of the BBB beef value chain in Quang Tri.

Proposing to develop high-quality beef cattle breeding models from the center's breed sources, feed, and services.

Research and test organic agricultural production models and circular agriculture associated with cattle farming such as: raising earthworms from cow manure, raising eels from earthworms as food source; testing and producing biological products for livestock and crop farming.

Building an experimental and agricultural technology transfer center to become a focal point for organizing the supply of high-quality breeding cows to serve the livestock needs in the province, with an expected supply of about 300 - 500 breeding cows/year in the period 2025 - 2027 and increasing steadily in the following years.

Speaking at the meeting, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department Ho Dai Nam suggested that the company should research and implement the direction of increasing the number of beef cattle and breeding calves. Add other crossbred cow breeds to the trial to evaluate the effectiveness.

Concluding the working session, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong basically agreed to implement the project to develop a high-quality beef herd associated with the construction of an experimental center, transfer of agricultural techniques and linkage in product consumption.

At the same time, the company is requested to research and revise some contents in the project to ensure compliance with regulations, and to complete it in September 2024. Emphasizing that the project is oriented to build an experimental and technical transfer center for agriculture to become an experimental hub in scientific research, testing effective agricultural production models for replication, and as a basis for reference in issuing support policies in the development of livestock and crop production.

Therefore, it is recommended that departments, branches and localities pay attention to supporting the center in carrying out scientific research tasks associated with experimental models in agricultural production. The company needs to soon complete and put into operation an organic fertilizer factory; survey and propose a location to build a slaughterhouse.
