On the morning of September 5, at the Opening Ceremony of the new school year of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Tran Duc Tai, a new medical student and the only valedictorian of block B in the country in 2025, represented the new students to share his thoughts.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tai said that becoming a medical student is the result of a journey of persistent efforts, not only for himself but also for the whole generation of new students. “This is not only a memorable milestone in life, but also the beginning of a new journey - sowing the seeds of knowledge, nurturing dreams and training the courage to become future physicians” - Tai said.
According to the male valedictorian, each student coming to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City has his or her own reasons: pursuing a childhood dream, continuing family tradition, or simply wanting to dedicate himself or herself to helping others. “Despite different starting points, we share the same aspiration to serve people’s health and contribute to the country’s healthcare sector,” Tai expressed.
Realizing that the road ahead is full of challenges, the male student affirmed that the school's support, the teachers' dedication, the sharing from his seniors and his belief in himself will be the motivation for the new students to overcome pressure and practice both the expertise and personality of a medical practitioner.
The only valedictorian of block B in the 2025 university entrance exam promised to seriously study and practice not only knowledge and expertise but also ethics and personality of a medical practitioner.

Also at the Opening Ceremony, Associate Professor Ngo Quoc Dat, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, advised students: “The most wonderful thing in life is to live with passion and realize your dreams. Be proud of choosing Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The school will accompany you to your success on the road ahead.”
Mr. Dat added that this year the school recruited 2,576 students but there were 17,975 candidates registered. As a result, 2,720 students were admitted and 2,589 students confirmed their enrollment, reaching 100.5% of the target. The school is currently training 11,217 students in 16 undergraduate majors, of which 9.4% of students are excellent, 20.7% are good, and 41.6% are fair.
In terms of postgraduate education, the school has 169 majors/specializations at 5 levels of training. In 2025, more than 5,000 candidates applied, but only 2,171 students met the requirements, accounting for 42.6%. The admission rate at postgraduate levels reached over 98%. The school has also just opened two new doctoral majors: Anesthesia and Resuscitation and Radiology - Nuclear Medicine.
Tran Duc Tai is a former student of Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School (HCMC), the only candidate to score 30/30 points in three subjects: Math - Chemistry - Biology in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. This achievement made the male student the valedictorian of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy and received a full scholarship for the first year of study.
