On June 24, TASS news agency quoted Prime Minister Orban's interview with the German Funke Media Group as saying: "I am not interested in the interests of Kiev or Moscow; first of all, I want the conflict to end and a ceasefire mechanism to be established."

He urged US President Joe Biden to launch a ceasefire initiative, saying the White House boss is “the only person in the world who can make two decisive calls – to Kiev and Moscow.”

“We must stop the killing on the front. We need space to work to find a path to peace that is acceptable to both sides and to Europe. Ultimately, this initiative is about a new European security architecture for us to live together,” the Hungarian Prime Minister stressed.

Noting that "there should be no illusions: Russia is different, its system and society are not European", the head of the Central European country's government said: "Moscow can and should be part of the European security system".

Hungary is the only European Union (EU) member state that opposes the bloc allocating additional funds for military aid to Ukraine.

On June 24, writing on Facebook, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto mentioned the plan of EU leaders "to announce billions of euros in arms supplies to Ukraine", stating: "If even a tenth of this enthusiasm had been invested in promoting peace, there would be far fewer deaths and much less destruction today."
