NDO - The results of the TB prevention and control program in Tay Ninh in recent years have achieved good results compared to the set goals. However, the province is still facing many difficulties and problems that need continued support and resolution.
The Tay Ninh Provincial Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Vietnam have just held a preliminary review of the province's Tuberculosis Control Program, promoting tuberculosis prevention and control for people and migrants in border areas.
Vietnam is still a country with a high burden of tuberculosis, ranking 11th among the 30 countries with the highest number of tuberculosis patients globally, and also ranking 11th among the 30 countries with the highest burden of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in the world (WHO Global TB Repot 2023 report).
In Tay Ninh province, in the first 9 months of 2024, the total number of people treated for sensitive tuberculosis was 1,896. 95% of people treated for tuberculosis had health insurance. In 2023, the province conducted screening in 5 border districts, detected 63 cases and treated 60 cases, and is preparing to continue screening in 2024.
At the Tay Ninh Provincial Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital, the results of Tay Ninh's tuberculosis prevention program in recent years have achieved good results compared to the set goals. The total number of tuberculosis patients of all types detected and admitted for treatment in Tay Ninh in 2023 is 2,649 patients, the rate of tuberculosis of all types/100,000 people is 218.
In the first 9 months of the year, the hospital discovered 9,167 cases, most of whom came to the Tay Ninh Provincial Tuberculosis and Lung Hospital for examination and Gene Xpert and Truenat testing to diagnose drug-resistant tuberculosis. The successful treatment rate remained high at over 90%, meeting the targets of the tuberculosis control program.
Dr. Dinh Van Luong, senior physician, Director of the Central Lung Hospital, and a delegation from the National Tuberculosis Control Program offered incense to pay tribute to Dr. Pham Ngoc Thach at the Hill 82 Martyrs' Cemetery, Tay Ninh province. |
However, like many other localities, Tay Ninh province is lacking a team of nurses and technicians to serve professional work; it has not been able to deploy advanced techniques at the unit such as mechanical ventilation, bronchoscopy, CT scan, antibiotic culture, pathological anatomy... so the rate of hospital transfers is still high; degraded facilities and equipment that have not been repaired also affect the unit's operations.
In addition, due to language barriers, it is difficult to discuss professional issues and treatment for patients.
The National Tuberculosis Control Program will continue to actively support units in implementation difficulties, especially proactive detection activities and screening of high-risk subjects according to the plan. With the support and efforts of the provinces in the last 3 months of 2024, the National Tuberculosis Control Program expects the detection rate to improve, meeting the goals and indicators of the projects as well as the program.
Dr. Dinh Van Luong also had an emotional meeting with Mr. Alain Pham Ngoc Dinh, son of Dr. Pham Ngoc Thach. |
Also on this occasion, Dr. Dinh Van Luong, senior physician, Director of the Central Lung Hospital, and the delegation of the National Tuberculosis Control Program offered incense to pay tribute to Dr. Pham Ngoc Thach at the Hill 82 Martyrs' Cemetery, Tay Ninh province.
