Mr. Tran Van Dau and Mr. Danh My are both veterans who participated in the resistance war against the US to save the country and the war to protect the southwestern border, and performed international duty to help Cambodia.

Mr. Tran Van Dau said: “In 1971, I joined the army, initially in Battalion 207, then transferred to Tan Hiep District Team. In 1977, I was ordered to fight to protect the southwestern border, then performed international duty in Cambodia. In 1978, while on duty, I was seriously injured by a DKZ gun fired by Pol Pot's army. Many of my comrades died right in the bunker, and I had to be treated for 3 months. After recovering, I continued my mission until 1983 when I returned to my hometown.” At the same time, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Men - Mr. Dau's wife was still quietly waiting for her husband. Mrs. Men said: “In 1980, when we got married, he only stayed home for 1 month and then disappeared. For three years, I only received one handwritten letter.”

Returning when the country was at peace , Mr. Dau and his wife's life was not without hardship. They only had a few hectares of rice fields, and raised pigs to make a living. While working on the land to make a living and participating in local work, he spent 32 years (1985 - 2017) as the Head of Thanh An 1 Hamlet, Thanh Dong Commune. Now, he owns more than 7 hectares of rice fields, raises more than 100 pigs, and has become a good farmer and businessman for many years in the commune.

He is also a pioneer in transforming production, applying technical advances such as "3 reductions, 3 increases", "5 musts, 1 right", contributing to changing people's farming practices. From "selling their faces to the land, selling their backs to the sky", now Thanh An 1 people have applied mechanization such as spraying planes, combine harvesters, helping farming to be more leisurely and more efficient.

In Thanh An 2 hamlet, wounded soldier Danh My (74 years old) is a shining example of perseverance and education for his children. He fought for 12 years and was wounded 7 times.

Returning to civilian life with poor health, Mr. My and his wife still worked hard, raising three children to become good people. Under his education, the youngest son, Danh Minh Thuong, became a party member and volunteered to join the army. Recently, his grandson, Danh Duy Khanh, whom he raised from a young age, also completed his military service.

Mr. Tran Van Truong - Head of Thanh An 2 Hamlet said: "The hamlet has 72 policy families who are exemplary in implementing the Party's policies and the State's laws, in which Mr. Danh My is a typical example, passing on the revolutionary fire to his children and youth to enthusiastically go to the battlefield to defend the Fatherland."

Promoting the tradition of "remembering the source of drinking water", in recent years, the Party Committee, government and Fatherland Front of Thanh Dong commune have paid special attention to taking care of the material and spiritual life of people with revolutionary contributions.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Dong Commune, Duong Quang Dang, said that the whole commune currently has 45 war invalids and sick soldiers; 61 meritorious people receiving monthly allowances; 20 relatives of martyrs; 150 people worshiping martyrs; 19 people worshiping Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; 2 people infected with toxic chemicals. All policy families are granted free health insurance cards, supported with medical examination, treatment, and housing according to regulations. In 2025 alone, the commune coordinated to build and repair 16 gratitude houses for policy families and relatives of martyrs.
