Billionaire Elon Musk is preparing to announce a chatbot to 'fight' ChatGPT

American billionaire Elon Musk said today, March 11, that this week, the artificial intelligence (AI) startup company xAI, which he founded, will release the open source code for the Grok chatbot. This is considered a leading competitor of ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by the American company OpenAI.

"This week, @xAI will open source Grok," Mr. Musk wrote in a post on the social network X.

The decision comes just days after Musk sued OpenAI for abandoning its original mission to become a for-profit company. Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but left three years later, according to Reuters.

In response, OpenAI released emails showing Mr. Musk supported plans to form a for-profit organization and wanted to merge with his electric car maker Tesla.

This billionaire has also repeatedly warned about big technology companies like Google (USA) using technology for profit.

The decision to release Grok could give the public free access to test the source code.

Companies like Meta (US) and Mistral (France) also have open-source AI models. Additionally, Google has released an AI model called Gemma that outside developers can design to their needs.

While open-source technology could help speed up the transition, some experts have warned that open-source AI models could be used by terrorists to create chemical weapons or even develop conscious superintelligence beyond human control.
