Definitely jump into the lake

In recent days, the image of Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang (born 1975, in Hai Duong ) braving the cold and poor health , jumping into the lake to save 3 drowning children has been widely shared on social networks, receiving many interactions and thousands of comments.

Netizens gave this woman many compliments and expressed their admiration for her brave and noble actions at the beginning of the year. Her decisive actions helped save the children's lives.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Trang said that the incident happened at 5:00 p.m. on February 1, the 4th day of Tet. When she jumped into the water, she did not hesitate. Because, being slow for a second could have put the victims in danger.

That day, the woman from Hai Duong and her child went for a walk around the lake in an urban area near her home as usual.

It was cold, her daughter urged her mother to go home early to save her health, but she tried to go around the lake one more time in the dry early spring weather. A few minutes later, Trang saw the children's arms flailing in the lake with their cries of "help... help... help" broken by exhaustion.

Judging that there were drowning children needing help, Ms. Trang did not have time to take off her mask and jacket, she resolutely jumped into the water, thus saving the lives of 3 victims.

"When I went down to the lake, the three children tried to reach out of the water, hoping for help. If I had been 15 seconds slower, the victims' lives would have been in danger. Even though the management board had put up a fence and posted warning signs, the children still went down to wash their hands, leading to the drowning," the benefactor of the three families recalled.

Stepping down the stairs, Ms. Trang felt the cold water. Seeing the three children on the fragile line between life and death as the water rose up to their necks, this woman quickly rushed out, using all her strength to push each child to the shore.

According to Ms. Trang, the incident occurred at a lake in an urban area, surrounded by a 1.2 meter high iron railing. The shoreline is about 3 meters deep, while the middle of the lake is 5 meters deep. There is a path up and down the lake, but even if the person who drowned could reach the cement steps, it would still be difficult for them to get to shore because of the thick moss and slippery surface.

"I only know how to swim at a basic level, I tried to push each victim to shore, but the children could not hold on to the steps. Seeing the incident, my husband was cycling nearby, panicked and ran over, stretched out his legs to create a grip, and pulled each child to safety," Trang shared.

When the third baby was about to escape danger, she was almost exhausted and whispered to her husband: "Please save me, I'm dying." Fortunately, with the timely support of her husband, she escaped the "grim reaper" and reached the shore safely.

"The baby clung to my husband's leg, and I clung to his back to keep from sinking into the water. If my husband hadn't helped me, I probably would have died. Now, every time I think back, I feel scared and haunted," Trang said.

When brought to shore, the three children were so scared that their faces turned pale and their clothes were soaked, while Trang was shivering from being in the water for so long. However, having done a good deed at the beginning of the year, this woman forgot all her fatigue.

Poor health but still determined to save people

Returning home safely, the three children kept the incident of falling into the lake a secret, but their parents still found out. A few days later, thanks to information on social media, the parents learned about Trang’s good deed and came to her house to thank her.

"The cause of the incident was a child fell into the lake while washing his hands. Seeing his friend calling for help, the other two children reached out to pull him but were unsuccessful, leading to him drowning. Of the three children rescued, two were in 4th grade, the other was in 7th grade," Ms. Trang revealed.

In addition to her successful steel business and real estate investments, Trang and her husband have three children and a happy married life. For many years, she has quietly done charity work, helping those in difficult circumstances.

After learning that the businesswoman saved three children from the lake, business partners, friends, and acquaintances all texted and called to express their admiration.

"I once read a touching story about a boy who fell down a pipe and hundreds of people searched for him for a whole week. In this case, when I found three children crying for help under the water, I couldn't stand by and watch, even though I knew it could put my life in danger," Trang said.

Since 2017, Trang's health has not been good due to anxiety disorder. Whenever there is pressure or stress, her blood pressure often increases above 200 mmHg. Every day, she keeps her life in a state of balance, choosing a quiet space, away from crowded places.

Since the incident of saving the three children, their condition has worsened, and Ms. Trang has had to change the dosage of medication as directed by the doctor. However, seeing the joy of the children's families, the businesswoman feels warmed.

Through this incident, the woman hopes that parents will increase supervision of their children and instruct them on how to respond when someone is drowning. This is also a warning about the risks that children may encounter when playing around ponds and lakes. In addition, parents need to pay attention to teaching their children to swim from an early age to prevent unexpected situations that can happen at any time.
