According to the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), the 200 VND note is still valid in circulation.
The 200 VND note was issued by the State Bank of Vietnam in 1987, a period when the country was entering a period of economic renewal and development. The front of the note features a picture of President Ho Chi Minh. The back of the note features an image symbolizing agriculture - the foundation of the country's economy.
In the early years of its issuance, the 200-dong note had a relatively large value and was widely used in people's daily transactions. Over time, due to economic fluctuations and inflation, the real value of the 200-dong note gradually decreased. Nowadays, 200-dong cannot buy as many things as before and gradually became less used.

According to the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), not only 200 VND bills, but also small denomination paper money such as 100 VND and 500 VND; metal coins with denominations of 200 VND, 500 VND, 1,000 VND, 2,000 VND, 5,000 VND are still valid in circulation. However, with the development of non-cash payments and the impact of income and exchange rate factors, etc.; affecting people's consumption and cash usage habits, small denomination bills are increasingly used less and their proportion in circulation is gradually narrowing.
Currently, metal coins and paper money of 100 dong and 200 dong are almost no longer used in daily payment transactions. Although the 500 dong is still used in transactions in some localities, the volume is not much (such as used to pay for supermarkets, hospitals, ferry fees, etc.).
" In recent years, low denomination notes (100 VND, 200 VND, 500 VND) have no practical payment value, so the State Bank has stopped printing and minting additional notes every year, and continues to use only the necessary amount from reserves, bank inventories and among the people.
For other denominations, the State Bank prints, issues and supplies full value and denomination structure into normal circulation, ensuring to meet the payment needs of the economy," the State Bank emphasized.
Thus, although no longer popular in daily transactions, the 200 VND note is still in circulation, although it is no longer supplemented.
In addition, for many people, the 200 VND bill is also a souvenir, so they still search for and collect it every year with a high exchange cost.
