In his speech at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son shared that the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Diplomatic Service is not only an occasion to review the past, but also a time to calm down, remember and show gratitude, while adding more faith, aspiration and responsibility on the road ahead.

Exactly 80 years ago, at the momentous moment of the nation when the country regained independence, President Ho Chi Minh established the Provisional Revolutionary Government and directly assumed the position of the first Minister of Foreign Affairs.

From that very beginning, the Vietnamese diplomatic sector has carried a noble mission - to be the "combined force of the Vietnamese revolution" on the silent front, protecting independence and sovereignty, connecting our nation with friends from all over the world for the ideals of peace, justice and humanity.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that the past 80 years of diplomacy have been a journey of courage, intelligence and steadfast loyalty to the Party, the Fatherland and the people; of tense negotiations in the midst of war; of courageous steps to break the siege and isolation, opening the door to integration; of the highest efforts to protect the legitimate interests of the nation; of being present at the right time and place at each important historical moment.

From the Preliminary Agreement of March 6, the Provisional Agreement of September 14, the Geneva Agreement of 1954 to the Paris Agreement of 1973 - each document, each line of text is imbued with the sweat, intelligence and blood of many generations of diplomatic staff. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, these are proof of the soft power, strategic vision and effective organization of Vietnamese diplomacy; they are brilliant milestones, symbols of the mettle and intelligence of the Vietnamese people.

Entering the period of Renovation, diplomacy continued to pioneer and pave the way, contributing to helping the country escape from the situation of siege and embargo, normalizing relations with other countries, expanding the foreign affairs situation with an independent, autonomous, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy, helping to affirm Vietnam's position in the international arena.

From a poor, backward, war-torn country, Vietnam has now become a dynamically developing country, fully and deeply integrated into the international community. From a country still standing on the sidelines of global flows, we have risen strongly, becoming a reliable partner, an active and responsible member of the international community.

"Tested and tempered in practice at times when the country faced thousands of difficulties, the past 80 years have witnessed the maturity and outstanding efforts of Vietnam's revolutionary diplomacy. The diplomatic sector has made many achievements of historical significance, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland..." - the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son said that 80 years are not just numbers, but the lives of dedication and the mark of thousands of diplomatic officers, from the veteran to today's young generation; many of whom have accepted difficulties and challenges, having to leave their homeland and family, to protect the national interests, the image and prestige of Vietnam.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh - former Vice President, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam - attended the celebration.

General Secretary To Lam said, “Vietnamese diplomacy must reach new heights to fulfill new glorious responsibilities, worthy of being the vanguard, the combined arms of the Vietnamese revolution.” The draft document of the 14th Congress also affirmed that “strengthening national defense and security, promoting foreign affairs and international integration are essential and regular.”

The Deputy Prime Minister stated: "The responsibility before the Fatherland, before history, before the people urges us to continue writing golden pages of history with courage, intelligence and great aspirations. We must constantly strive so that diplomacy continues to be the guiding light, the glue connecting national and ethnic interests with the trend of the times, a solid foundation for development, a shining example of courage and dedication."
