General Secretary To Lam: "Land prices are inflated terribly!"

(Dan Tri) - Regarding the fact that land prices were assigned to councils and consulting companies to determine prices based on the market, but since then many problems have arisen, with "land brokers" inflating prices, the General Secretary emphasized the need to rectify and restore order.

At a meeting with voters in Hanoi before the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly on September 30, General Secretary To Lam spent a lot of time talking about land issues and abandoned projects that cause waste.

The General Secretary pointed out the fact that the State manages the prices of gasoline, electricity and many other commodities, but land prices are assigned to councils and consulting companies to set prices according to the market.

This has led to market manipulation and price inflation, causing difficulties for people's lives when other goods that the State does not manage are also inflated in price.

The General Secretary asked: "Recently, Hanoi auctioned land like in Dong Anh, here and there, so is such an auction really fair?"

The General Secretary cited examples of very small, interspersed plots of land that could not be used for anything but were put up for auction. "Land brokers" came to the auction, pushing the price of that plot of land up very high so that their land of thousands of hectares next to it could be sold at that very high price.

"People reflect that their hometown is there, they live there, but now they can no longer buy land in their hometown because the price has been inflated terribly. "Land brokers" inflate the price terribly, from which speculation and hoarding arise... getting rich from those things," the General Secretary said, emphasizing that it is necessary to manage the shortcomings and make adjustments to bring them back to order.

The General Secretary also spoke about the fact that many projects and works are shelved, causing huge waste when thousands of hectares of land are not put into use. Through review, there are nearly 3,000 projects of this type nationwide, recently only more than 1,000 projects with a value of nearly 1 quadrillion VND have been resolved.

According to the General Secretary, central agencies are also studying amendments to the Land Law and the Planning Law. Amendments to the law must not be hasty or done in a hasty or superficial manner, but must be consistent with reality for development.

Emphasizing the consistent viewpoint that land belongs to the entire people, is owned and managed by the State, and cannot be privatized, the General Secretary asked: "Why has all State land become private?"

The General Secretary affirmed that the State must ensure the right to use land fairly and effectively for all people, avoiding waste. In addition, it must maximize the efficiency of land resources to develop the country.

"Land cannot be sold to foreigners, and foreigners cannot own Vietnamese land. If you buy a house or a door, you must buy from the second floor up or buy a house on land. You do not have the right to own the land. Every inch of sacred land is also ours," the General Secretary emphasized.

According to the General Secretary, to effectively promote land resources for national development, they must not be wasted.

"People can monitor, why have you left prime land unused for 10 years, 20 years? With grass growing like this, who is responsible? That is a waste of national resources, the country's resources," the General Secretary raised the issue, at the same time demanding that "waste must be dealt with".

"We are very saddened to see many land-related projects being left unattended and wasted every day and every hour," the General Secretary said, repeating that "land must have a manager, and someone must be responsible for leaving land fallow and causing waste."
