The Intergenerational Self-Help Club model has been implemented by the Representative Board of the Elderly Association at all levels since 2017. By May 2025, the whole province had established 208 clubs, attracting more than 11,000 members. After being established, the clubs focused on and promoted activities to support members in developing family economy , increasing income, improving life, sharing experiences, promoting and mobilizing the good implementation of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies; taking care of health, cultural and artistic activities, participating in building new rural areas, civilized urban areas and regularly visiting and encouraging each other, together maintaining security and order in the place of residence.
In the period of 2021-2025, the whole province has 770 members of the Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs who have been able to borrow capital for production and business to support the family economy, with a total accumulated loan amount of over 2.8 billion VND. According to the Provincial Elderly Association, members who have borrowed capital have used it for the right purpose, promoted the effectiveness of the loan source, paid interest and contributed to increasing income according to regulations. From there, they have boldly invested in models such as: Poultry farming, expanding the area of ponds for shrimp and fish farming, opening a vegetable and fruit shop, opening a breakfast shop; making honeycomb charcoal...
Some intergenerational self-help clubs have invested in purchasing equipment to serve their activities, such as: blood pressure and weight monitors to check health indicators for members; coordinating to invite experts and doctors to discuss and advise on self-care methods for club members...
For self-help and community support activities, period 2021-2025, the whole province has helped 960 members of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club in difficult circumstances with a total value of 873.5 million VND. In addition, the Club members have promoted self-help activities and community support, such as: participating in Green Sunday, protecting the environment; helping members' families with funerals and weddings; helping members in difficult circumstances when they are sick to buy medicine, food, groceries...; supporting cultural activities of the village, area on holidays, Tet...
Spiritual, cultural and artistic activities are the most vibrant activities of the Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs. 100% of the clubs in the province have sports activities such as: volleyball, folk dance, badminton, table tennis, poetry and music.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Gai, Head of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club in Hiep An 1 area, Yen Tu ward, said: The club currently has 69 members. The oldest member is 92 years old, the youngest is a 7th grader. Students and members over 80 years old do not have to contribute anything when joining the club. The remaining members pay a fee of 500,000 VND/person/year to organize activities such as lending capital to members to develop the economy, visiting the sick, etc. To create a fund for the club, we also actively mobilize donors to help and support about 10 million VND/year.
It can be seen that the activities of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club have made certain contributions to the work of building the Association of the Elderly, strengthening solidarity between generations of the elderly and young people, youth and women. Thereby, creating livelihoods, contributing to reducing difficulties for the elderly. After operating the 2-level local government, in communes, wards and special zones, the Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs are continuing to be improved, aiming at practical, effective and sustainable activities.
