Ho Chi Minh City won the 2025 National Vovinam Championship

(NLDO) - The 31st National Vovinam Championship - 2025 in Vinh Long has ended with Ho Chi Minh City taking the top spot with 16 gold medals.

The 31st National Vovinam Championship in 2025 took place from September 10 to 15 at the Vinh Long Provincial Multi-purpose Gymnasium. The tournament attracted nearly 300 athletes from 22 units nationwide competing for 48 sets of medals.

In which, the content of boxing with 22 sets of medals includes: solo training, dual training, multi-training and basic technical team. There are also 26 weight categories with men's weight categories from 45kg to over 92kg, women's weight categories from 42kg to over 75kg.

In this year’s tournament, famous Vietnamese Vovinam athletes continued to demonstrate their mettle and class. World and SEA Games champions such as Nguyen Thanh Liem, Le Thi Hien, Nguyen Hoang Du, Nguyen Dat Duy Long, etc. maintained their form with well-deserved gold medals.

In addition, many young martial artists bring new winds to the Vovinam movement such as: Tran Cong Anh Duc (Quang Ngai), Thi Lai (Dong Nai), Vu Thi Nga (Thanh Hoa), Phan Phi Long, Nguyen Thi Hoai Linh, Mai Ngoc Tu Lan (HCMC). This is also the force that localities are preparing for the 2026 National Sports Festival in HCMC.

After 5 days of competition, Ho Chi Minh City continued to affirm that it is the locality with the strongest development of the Vovinam movement in the country when it won 16 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals to successfully defend the top position of the delegation for many years. In particular, the strength of the content of the form was still maintained with 11 gold medals, the combat weight categories had progressed when they won 6 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.

Ranked second overall was Can Tho with 10 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 3 bronze medals. Notably, all 10 of their gold medals were won in the power category, which shows that this strength has been brought into full play.

The third place overall belonged to Thanh Hoa with 5 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals. All 5 gold medals were in the combat weight categories. This is one of the localities with the leading strength in combat competitions of Vietnam Vovinam.

Mr. Ngo Ba Huy, Vovinam specialist of the Vietnam Sports Department, said: “This year’s tournament has high professional quality as the units have been supplemented with many high-class athletes after the administrative boundary merger. The matches were exciting and tense.

After the national championship, the Vietnam Sports Administration and the Vietnam Vovinam Federation will select the best team to participate in the 2025 world championship taking place in early November in Indonesia.
