“Ho Chi Minh City aims to create a number of modern, multifunctional nursing homes on par with the region by 2030, with a vision to 2045. The development of nursing services will be closely linked with the health system, health insurance, traditional medicine and social work, ensuring that all elderly people receive comprehensive care, both physically and mentally.”
The information was given by Mr. Nguyen Tang Minh, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health at the launching ceremony of the Action Month for the Vietnamese Elderly in 2025, held on the afternoon of October 3.
According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the city currently has about 1.6 million elderly people, accounting for over 11% of the population, with an increasingly high aging index. This is both a challenge and an opportunity to promote the wisdom, experience, prestige and valuable traditions of the elderly in building and developing the city.
Over the years, the City Elderly Association at all levels has organized many practical activities, from health care, social security support, building a Elderly Care Fund, to developing intergenerational self-help clubs, health clubs, and culture and arts.
The movements "Old age - Good example" and "Live happily, live healthily, live happily, live usefully" have created a positive influence in society.
This year, the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam is being implemented nationwide with the theme: "Promoting the role of the elderly in the era of national growth."

During this year's Action Month, Ho Chi Minh City focuses on enhancing communication to raise social awareness about the Law on the Elderly, the role and position of the elderly in the new development stage; implementing programs and projects for elderly health care such as: screening, detecting non-communicable diseases...
Along with that, the City mobilizes social resources, encourages businesses to fulfill social responsibilities in caring for and supporting the elderly, replicates home care models, friendly community activity centers; develops and maintains intergenerational self-help clubs, health care, culture-arts, sports , etc.; pays special attention to the elderly in difficult circumstances, loneliness, and without support, ensuring that no one is left behind.
The new point of this year's Action Month is that the City will strengthen public-private cooperation, build a mechanism to encourage businesses to participate in sponsoring the elderly through implementing social responsibilities such as supporting start-ups, developing production and business for the elderly through skills training, capital support, developing traditional handicrafts, connecting product consumption, creating suitable jobs for the elderly; financial support, giving gifts, supporting hospital fees, building and repairing charity houses, organizing regular visits...
In particular, in addition to strengthening the grassroots health network, the City will focus on building and implementing a project to develop nursing home services; at the same time, encourage the development of public-private partnership models, mobilize businesses and social organizations to participate in investing in facilities, and provide high-quality care services for the elderly.
Ho Chi Minh City aims to create a number of modern, multifunctional nursing homes on par with the region by 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The development of nursing care services will be closely linked with the healthcare system, health insurance, traditional medicine and social work, ensuring that all elderly people receive comprehensive care in terms of physical, mental and social life./.
