Special Moon Season
Holding a rooster-shaped lantern in his hand, Nguyen Thien An, 7 years old, living at Thien An Shelter, attentively watched every move of the magician on stage. Next to Thien An, Tran Hong Hanh, 8 years old, also living at the shelter, was also clapping and cheering when she saw the doves flying up from the magician's shirt. The atmosphere at the program "Moon of Love" organized by the Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans of Ho Chi Minh City was more exciting when the magic show was followed by attractive circus acts.

200 orphans, disabled children, and children in especially difficult circumstances living at Thien An Shelter, Binh Thanh Hope School for the Deaf, Vocational Training Center and children in Xuan Hoa Ward (HCMC) had fun, received gifts from Uncle Cuoi and Sister Hang and ate moon cakes together on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival with joyful laughter.
Nestled near the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital (branch 2, Tang Nhon Phu ward), the Thien Tam zero-dong boarding house - considered a warm second home for children with cancer - was filled with laughter that day when a delegation from the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society visited and gave Mid-Autumn Festival gifts to the children. Holding a lantern given by the delegation, Nguyen Phuc Nguyen, 7 years old, from Ca Mau province, happily ran around the room. "So the children have a warm Mid-Autumn Festival," said Nguyen Duc Linh, the caretaker at the boarding house.
Practical gift
Receiving a meaningful Mid-Autumn gift right when his family was in a difficult situation, Mr. Nguyen Anh Vinh, a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Motorbike Taxi and Technology Vehicle Union (residing in Phu Dinh Ward) was moved to tears. "My children have moon cakes to celebrate the full moon, and my wife has more money for medical treatment," Mr. Vinh said happily.
Mr. Vinh is the only worker in a family of 6: his mother is old and weak and unable to work, his younger sister is mentally disabled, 2 young children are of school age, and his wife, Ms. Nguyen Le Vi Thuy, used to be a leather shoe worker in Tan Tao ward but quit her job in May 2025 due to being diagnosed with cancer. The Ho Chi Minh City Confederation of Labor and the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Union Social Work Center gave his family 20 million VND in support money and 2 Mid-Autumn Festival gifts. The Ho Chi Minh City Labor Union Social Work Center supported Mr. Vinh's family with a savings book of 5 million VND. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the Phu Dinh Ward Labor Union also donated bicycles to help Mr. Vinh's children go to school.
The "Mid-Autumn Festival of Love" program organized by the Working Group No. 7 of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation on the evening of October 2 helped nearly 130 children of workers have a meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival. The children, orphaned by the Covid-19 epidemic, interacted, played games, and received gifts from Uncle Cuoi and Ms. Hang. Mr. Dang Trung Dung, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, expressed that each Mid-Autumn Festival gift is not only practical support but also the affection and sharing of the union organization to the children of union members, workers, and laborers.
This year, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation has donated more than 1,200 Mid-Autumn Festival gifts to children or union members, workers facing difficulties, occupational accidents, occupational diseases, serious illnesses, and orphans due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On the occasion of this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union organized a Children's Painting Festival with the theme "Independence Mid-Autumn". The festival took place at 5 locations in Ho Chi Minh City, attracting about 5,000 contestants from 6 to 14 years old. With the theme "Independence Mid-Autumn", the children expressed through their paintings images rich in historical and cultural significance: Independence Mid-Autumn of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam; Uncle Ho celebrating Tet with children...
