This is the 5th solo exhibition of artist Do Son, at the age of 82, after 17 years since his 4th exhibition in 2008. For the public, this return is a special mark in the nearly 60-year creative journey of the talented artist.
He once said: “Painting is in my blood. I do nothing but paint, because it is the only way for me to be true to myself.” That statement explains why, at the age of over 80, he is still diligently working with the easel, still creating new works to dialogue with himself and the public.

At this exhibition, he introduces 92 paintings, with diverse materials, including many impressive sketches selected from family archives, along with some recently created works. The paintings bring viewers back to many major themes throughout his career: from sketches of battlefields, Sa Pa landscapes, daily life, women, nude paintings to abstract expressionist works.

Painter Do Son was born in 1943 and spent many years working in the military environment. After graduating from the Vietnam College of Fine Arts (now the Vietnam University of Fine Arts), he joined the battlefield in Zone V, then worked at the People's Army Newspaper and then the Army Fine Arts Workshop and the Vietnam Military History Museum. Painting has always been the source of his creative life.

Throughout his career, painter Do Son has left many marks with his unique creative style, combining the strength of his brush, the rhythm of color with subtle emotions and contemplation. His paintings are not only associated with the theme of war, but also open up poetic everyday worlds .
He currently has 8 works in the collection of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, and many other works are collected by organizations and individuals in 26 countries and territories, including the Singapore Fine Arts Museum, the Moroccan Royal Art Collection, or Mobil (USA)... Painter Do Son was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2016.

This exhibition space is considered a “painting journey”, where the public can feel more clearly the artist’s diverse writing style and enduring creative spirit. At the age of over 80, with an artistic flame that has never been extinguished, Do Son has shown the tireless dedication of a true artist.
