Ho Chi Minh City gives a "hot" reward of 300 million VND to world chess champion Lai Ly Huynh

On the afternoon of September 29, Mr. Cao Van Chong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, on behalf of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, led a working delegation to visit and congratulate world chess champion Lai Ly Huynh at his home in Phu Loi ward (Ho Chi Minh City).

Accordingly, on the afternoon of September 27, Lai Ly Huynh defeated chess player Doan Thang in the 2025 world chess final, helping Vietnam win the world championship for the first time.

At the meeting and congratulation in Phu Loi ward (HCMC), Mr. Cao Van Chong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of HCMC conveyed the congratulations of the leaders of HCMC to the world champion Lai Ly Huynh. At the same time, a "hot" reward of 300 million VND was awarded, of which the HCMC People's Committee awarded 200 million VND, and the Department of Culture and Sports of HCMC awarded 100 million VND.

It is known that the World Chinese Chess Championship was established in 1990 and is held every two years. Lai Ly Huynh was born in 1990 in Vinh Long , residing in Phu Loi ward, Ho Chi Minh City; was the national Chinese chess champion 6 times and is currently the number 1 chess player in Vietnam.
